Hulu. What's the Story?

Jerry: I think you are having trouble understanding this because now we have to PAY for reruns. Back in the days of annoying commercial TV over the "airwaves" reruns were something tricked on us during baseball season. Now we pay for both new and used content. Hulu = Reruns.

I saw that, but I'm looking for comments from users. I know some of their content is current, but lots of it is "archived." I'd like to cut down on my cable bill, but not if I'm going to miss the few shows I watch.

I'd like an actual list, rather than "and many others." I might take a chance on the free week if it doesn't require a credit card to be free.

Jerry, I have no idea what Hulu has.... I have Netflix, Nothing New, but gobs and gobs that I have not seen.. I Haven't wathed a "Sit Com" or A reality Show in over 10 years, so that is not a problem to me..
I also have ACORN which is a British programming only... and it has lots of British shows such as Midsomer Murders, Wired, Vera, Magrait, George Gently, etc.. I love them and there are lots...

NOW...if what you watch is on the Alphabet Stations...ie CBS,NBC,ABC,TNT, A&E etc.... You can watch all or Most of their Programming for free and most of them in HD..... most only 24hrs old.....

I have been working on setting up a laptop to stream (Via HDMI Cable) all programming to my large TV.. Have had some success, but still needs tweaking...
In August of this year, my DISH Contract runs out and I am not upping the subscription so will be relying on the Internet for all viewing....

Where I live, if you do not have Fox Sports Midwest, you cannot get the Cardinal or Cub baseball games, they are blacked out.... BUT... I have a web site where they can be watched in real time... I have watched all but one of their games so far this year....

Hope this helped some..

Mike

I would like to see some of the old (I mean old!) series from TV such as the original Little Rascals, All in The Family, Laurel and Hardy, etc.. Is there any way to access these on Roku, using Roku, Netflix, Hulu, etc.?

I don't know about those particular shows... BUT I do know that ROKU has several channels of OLD OLD Movies and TV SHOWS.... just have to search around...

ROKU is a box that those channels play through. There are some free channels on there like Crackle and a lot of free classic or vintage TV shows in B&W. They would likely be there for free. The image quality wouldn't be as good as a Hulu or Netflix and there is a 30 second commercial about every 10 minutes, but it's free so what can you expect?

I only tried Netflix. The difference between $8 streaming, and the mail disk program is content. Old stuff on streaming and newer movies on the mail program. I am only 100 miles from the outlet for mailing, so I can get in about 8-12 movies a month in disk on the "two disks out at a time". Between the location of the service center and my regular post office, I am three days from mailing back and getting the next movie back on my "queue".

Also, no buffering on playing the disks as occasionally happens on streaming. I don't have a snack stand in the kitchen, so don't like the buffering (intermission).

However, and this is for Jerry, the buffering does allow some time to go out in the yard and actually shoot some pictures!

Hardly a problem since I must go to the post office and check my mail daily for business anyway. $12 for more newer movies is the way I like the program.

That's changing some recently. NetFlix is now putting some newer movies online too. I've watched some from 2010 through 2014 recently although they're not top box office hits. I'm sure they don't want the $8 online business to cut into their $12 mail business so that's why you get more newer movies. When a big competitor comes along with all the stuff that you get for $12, I'm sure Netflix will have to concede and start doing the same thing. Then the online and mail versions will become the same.

I wonder why you have buffering problems. Mine burps once in a while (rarely) and shuts off the movie and I have to tell it to continue where it left off but it never stops to buffer. That's an internet speed problem apparently.

Can you tell me what Hulu actually offers? I know they have a free version and one for $7.99/month. Their site doesn't explain very much about what is actually available. I know I can try it for a week for free, but that might involve having to contact them to cancel so they don't start charging me - something that can be difficult.

By the way, if you Google Hulu Plus, go to that page where they want you to sign up for a trial week, then go down to the bottom, there is a link to a listing of everything they have. 375+ pages of what they have as movies and TV shows, in fact, or 112 pages of what TV shows only that they carry.

What's curious to me is that in some cases they'll have one season of a TV show when I know the show ran for 5 or more years. You can watch 300+ Seinfeld shows but some shows that went on for 10 years only have one season. I don't get that.

I only do the free HULU at this point. Right now I'm totally addicted to a 1960's Japanese movie series called Zatoichi the blind swordsman. There are over twenty films in the series. I watched the first one out of curiosity, now I'm wasting countless hours in front of the tv. Something I never do. I work in tv production and usually it's the last thing I want to do when I get home....dinogi

One thing I learned after my laptop would shut down completely after about 45 min. of watching a movie on Netflix is that your system might overheat while streaming video. While on the road I would use the laptop connected to a hotel flat screen with an HDMI cord. I bought a Belkin cooling pad that fits under the laptop and the problem went away. It has a single fan and gives the laptop a little more breathing room. Plus it's powered by the laptop via a USB connection. Super quite and cost less than $20 at Best Buy. I use it even when not streaming video. Never hurts to keep the computer cooler.

I tried it at home after my last surgery, cancelled it before the month was up. I got as much from the free Hulu as I really wanted/needed, and still find Netflix to have more content that I'm interested in. The problem is that you can't get Hulu free on the Roku only the Hulu+.

OK.. here is ALL you need to know to watch good FREE tv/movies/documentaries/sports.... Well, maybe not all you need to know.

The Three URL's I am listing below are TOTALLY free, and Two of them (not the Sports one) seem to be AD FREE......

http://usdrama.net/ This is all TV shows and I don't watch most of them, so do not know how many seasons they had/have but here is a sample
Goodwife 5 seasons
Mentalist 6 seasons
NCIS 11 seasons
GLEE 5 seasons
The shows appear to be Ad Free

http://www.shush.se Movies, TV, Documentaries. I have not gone to a Movie Theater in at least 15 years, so don't follow the current ones... but here are three that I am sure are pretty new that they have..
Captain Phillips
LASTVegas
Gravity
These all appear to be Ad Free..

http://www.vipboxus.co/ This is a SPORTS only and is the channel I watch Cardinals Baseball (Blocked in my area by dish or ??) on and haven't missed a game so far...

There is more than one FEED offered for each game/race/? and sometimes it is necessary to move around to find the best one. There are ADS. The stream is a little Jerky and or it freezes on occasion, but not too bad, particularly when it is the only place I can watch the Game.... BUT IT IS FREE

http://www.streamsportlive.me/ This is an Aggravating site that OFFERS much, but stream feed is not "real" good.. But it does offer FOX NEWS.... yeah..hahahaha (thats for your FAUX news Haters...) Along with much more, give it a look....

Since I do not care much about the age of movies, etc... I am more than content with ROKU, NetFlix and ACORN.... hope some of this has helped..

Thank You for the links to the video sites, these will come in handy for me when I retire, if I can afford to retire.
