Easy fix, skylane. Two of these and a bigger camera bag.

I shoot with a Nikon D7000 and have the Sigma 17-50...love it!!!

2nd ^^ I also have this combo and can recommend the Sigma 17-50.

I had the 17-70 2.8-4, which I also thought was very good. The only drawback was that it was a little soft at 70mm @ f/4. Stopping down to f/5.6 for sharpness might be too slow for the OP's hockey games. The new Contemporary version is supposed to be sharper, from what I've read.

I also like to shoot ice hockey but am a Tamron fan and use the Tamron 24-70 2.8 and does a great job. Very sharp lens. Might want to consider it.

I enjoy shooting ice hockey games. I already have a SIGMA 70-200mm f2.8 and very happry with it. Want to get a lens for shooting when the action gets close to the glass and the net. I am looking at the SIGMA 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC OS HSM. Seen good reviews on YouTube for this lens. Checking what you guys think if you have this lens in your collection? Going price is $569.00 at B&H and/or ADORAMA..... Don't want to go grey at all. The lens has a 4 year warranty.

What a stupid and totally inappropriate thing to say to a poster you know nothing about. Why would you even inject race into this topic? Totally disgusting.

Maybe I am missing something. Hockey is a fast paced game. Do you have a second camera body or do you expect to swap lenses mid play.

Would you care to elaborate?
Its easy to throw insults around if all you want to do is childishly point score, but I'd like to know your basis for forming that opinion.
You and buffmaloney seem to be off on some sort of illogical tangent.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Thanks...

I have a Sigma 17-70 and it is a super lens. It could be just what you need. I think the range is better for what you want to do with it. You can catch them coming toward you and then you can get them when their face is smashed into the glass! (I'm a big hockey fan!)

I own the Sigma 17-70 C which I love but may be to slow for your needs. It has the range which would compliment the 70-200.

I'm a firm believer if you shoot Nikon use Nikon lenses if Canon use their lenses. I know Sigma and Tamron are making some good stuff these days but stay with your brand.

Why?
