Captured a few squirrel shots in my back yard earlier today. I was pleasantly surprised they turned out as well as they did but given the consistently high quality performance of the Canon 100-400 L IS lens, I don't know why I'm surprised. Don't know what I'm going to do when the Tamron 150-600 finally gets here. I'm going to hate not using this lens as much as I do now. Something tells me I'm going to have to find the time to use them both. I'm wondering if I should purchase another camera to have them both at the ready or would this be overkill? Does anybody else have this problem?

Sure why not. We'll call it an early birthday present! (Actually, I can't believe I'm whining about what to do with "too much" camera glass.) I must be spoiled rotten. But why do I still want a 500 or 600 fixed focal lens as well? If I had one I'd probably want the 800 as well. When does it ever end?

I really like the mossy background of these. That's one nice lens!! You could brighten up the squirrels a little bit if you wanted, they are in shadow, but they look good as they are, too.

Thanks very much Heirloom Tom...I think the background is what makes these shots "come alive" and the 100-400 Canon was just the right lens for the job. And you're right -they're a little dark in shade but if you click the "download" button they do brighten up some. Try it and let me know what you think. If they're still too dark I'll tweak the curves adjuster just a tad more in PS. Thanks again:)

I agree about the background. They do brighten a bit on download, especially the last two. I think number one squirrel could be selected and made a bit brighter without affecting the background. Cute!

Very easy: "NEVER"! Unless you hang that "photography-coat" on the hanger, but as soon as you pick it up - again- it re-appears (lot of times stronger than ever)!

After shooting that L lens you will have to lower your expectations a little.

Very good set, but for me the muted greys and superb light make the first picture a winner, great picture.

Thank you Speters. At least I know that I'm not the only greedy lens grabber on the planet. I don't feel quite as guilty anymore thanks to your vote of approval:) So now its official: I'll keep on adding to the photographic wish list 'til I'm pushing daises:)

Thank you Geoff. I got lucky with the light even though Mr. Squirrel was actually in the shade. I do love that "L" lens and don't think I'll ever give it up.

At least you'll be prepared to take great pictures of the daises (from any angle)!

I'm afraid you may be right Montzenger but still looking forward to the added reach of the 150-600 Tamron. I'm sure there's going to be a learning curve as there was with the 100-400 Canon L and will just have to learn to accept the Tamron's limitations along with its extra reach. I sure wish Canon would hurry up and develop the perfect "Do it all" lens: A 24 - 800 IS F/2.8 for under $500 bucks! If only I could live long enough to see THAT baby hit the streets! Thanks for posting:)
