Well As some of you know when your 71 you don't sleep all night anymore.
I woke up at three am and grabbed the camera and stepped out on the porch.
Looked up and thought I would try a quick shot at Saturn. This is not real good
but I promise they will get better. Here it is.

Hi Frizzen: Definitely know about the sleepless nights at 72! Interesting shot you have there. What lens were you using? I didn't realize you could get the rings of Saturn with an ordinary camera and lens - even a powerful one.
:-)

Like I have said and have been ridiculed for the SX50 is like carrying The Hubble Telescope in your Pocket. Perhaps this and you last shot will silence those. LOL

Camera was on ISO 80 and I had forgot and left the shutter in my "Moon"
mode of 80 . Next time I'm going to lower it to 10 or 1/8 . I was able to
brighten it up some in PP. I use Photogene on my I-pad.

If you have an Android phone, Google Sky is a free app that identifies and shows everything you'd ever want to see and then some. It uses GPS and you just hold up your phone and what's in front of you is on the screen.

Wow! This is incredible! I wouldn't even know where to look for Saturn. About all I can identify are the big dipper and the moon. :-D

Saturn is in the South up about 35 degrees. The width of your hand is 5 degrees. So hold your out toward the horizon with
your little pinkey on the horizon. Now put your other hand on
top of it with your little pinky on your thumb. That will be 10
degrees. Just keep doing this stacking one on top of the other
until you get what you want. In this case 35 degees. Saturn will
be pretty bright. Time 3-5 am. You will see it. Got another this
morning. Handheld.
