First time posting but have been reading UHH for some time. I am considering buying a Nikon AF-S DX 10X24 lens to use on my D5100 and D40. At this stage of the game I am not considering going to an FX format. I would appreciate comments from any current users of the 10X24.. I would use the lens for landscape and some indoor real estate type photos. I currently have the kit lens but use my 18X300mm almost all the time.

Are you talking about the 14-24mm?

Consider the Tokina lenses, inexpensive, sharp, and easily corrected for in lightroom.

I had one. But the I got a Tokina 12-24mm F2.8 and sold the Nikon. The Tokina is brighter and sharper in my opinion.
Thanks, I will look at the Tokina.
First--welcome to the Hog.
Second--You'll get lots of good insight and will form your own opinion of who is credible and who is incredible. I always listen to MT Shooter. He's proven over the long term to be one of the good ones. Oh, and I pay close attention to Captain C.
Third--As you probably know, B&H has a sale on the Nikon 10-24mm lens, so you can get it for $659. But the Tokina that MT Shooter suggests is about $200 less than the sale price of the Nikon.
Food for thought.

Check the tests at photozone.de. The Tokina lenses are sharp, but they tend to have pretty awful chromatic aberration and flare monstrously under some conditions. The main weakness of the Nokon is poor corner sharpness at 10mm; otherwise it is quite respectable. Personally I prefer the Sigma 8-16mm.

The 10x24 if for DX cameras, and the 14x24 is for FX cameras. The 10x24 on my D7000 is awesome and tack sharp at both ends after fine tuning. It was slightly back focusing out of the box.

I have the Nikon 10-24 and really like it. I went to my local camera store and tried the Tokina and Tamron, and also the Sigma 8-16. I settled on the Nikon - got a rebate on it at the time which made the cost comparison easier.
