Hello and good day to you all. I would like to know the better editing software that I can purchase to help touch up my pictures to make them better.

Welcome to UHH. It looks like you are new to this forum.

There are dozens of good programs. Some are very simple and some are made to be much more powerful and complex. Many are free and many are quite expensive. Most, if not all, cameras come with something that works well for many.

There are many topics here that discuss all the software used. A current one is a survey: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-193308-1.html

My personal favorites are Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. I also use Premier Elements for video.

Good luck!

The best bang for the buck is PSE12 (Photoshop Elements 12) for around $69
The best software made is Photoshop CC which is a monthly subscription of about $20/month

Welcome to UHH. You might still be able to get LR5 and CS6 from the Adobe cloud for about $10.00 per month. I tend to use Photoshop (CS6) for everything. I have the Adobe Cloud and I really like it. Others may have a different opinion. Have fun.

Welcome to a fun and addictive forum :)

Picasa is free and has lots of options to get you started. Go to the Google download, not a third-party, here:

I just bought Photoshop Elements 12.... It does a lot..and I have a lot to learn....but I still go to Picasa for some things. Try out free Picasa, it is a really good program to get you started and depending how much and what type of editing you want to do, it may be all you need!
Best of luck!
Sonja

I would recommend checking out onOne Perfect Photo Suite 8.0, it is very easy to use, has tons of functions, a one time price
of about $149, and tons of free video instruction and inspirational Webinars.

I'm old so I hate learning and then relearning different programs.

Thus, if I must learn something I want to be able to use the knowledge for a long time. I vote for Photoshop Elements!

>> Moderately low cost, often as low as $50.
>> Provides growth track to newer versions with minimum relearning.
>> Shares access to most of big brother Photoshop CS and CC plug-in libraries.
>> Plenty of on-line tutorials, video training, forums and printed books.
>> All the power that, in my opinion meets at least 90% of the photo retouching needs.

I learned PSE 2 (I said I'm old) and have stuck with it ever since. I have Photoshop CS6 and CC on different computers, but find myself using PSE for PHOTO retouching and creative exercises. I use full PS for preparation of more complex web and print GRAPHICS.

Learn ONCE and enjoy.

In this list of free (or almost) software, scroll down to Graphics Software where you will find substitutes for many expensive programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. Good luck with whatever you choose. John

I took an Adult School photography class where Photoshop Elements ( I think it was Elements 5 at the time) was used. The class helped a lot with my learning curve and I've been satisfied with the product. By the way, there's no need to buy every single version of the program whenever it comes out.

I've been using Adobe Lightroom since it was introduced and I still think it's the best overall photo editing software on the market. Each new version is packed with more features and for all you can do with it, it's still relatively easy to use. It's also not ridiculously expensive.
