If the Pre-Ai Nikkors have been modified they will mount & work, otherwise no.... Many of the 3rd party Pre-Ai lenses will mount as they don't have the aperture "skirts" that extend down past the mount face like the Pre-Ai Nikkors have & the cause of damage to the Ai follower tab. That said, any lens that binds (not mounting easily) should not be forced...I have several 3rd party Pre-Ai Nikon mount lenses that I have used on my Nikon DSLR's with no issues, but I also have some that bind & thus I don't mount. Most of those really old 3rd party lenses are of average optical IQ & I rarely shoot with any old Pre-Ai lenses (pre 1977)...

Pre-AI lenses won't mount. ALL other non-mirror lock-up F-mount Nikkors will be fine on the D7000. One of the nicest DX cameras out there.

Can I use my old Nikon lens' on the new 7000 digital cameras?

Be careful here. Some of the old lenses, due to the mechanical design, will cause damage to the contacts inside the camera. Of the 15 Nikkor lenses I have, only two won't work on my D700.

I could have those two modified, but my feeling is why bother. They are duplicated within the range of the one zoom lens I use most of the time.

I doubt that you have seen the image of my Nikon lens cabinet that I post periodically.... It was taken about 5 years ago but I still have most of the lenses. I have sold a few, but have bought just as many as I have sold.... This is just the lens cabinet. There are separate cabinets for cameras & other gear (including non Nikon cameras & lenses)

What lenses are you considering using ?... Serial #'s along with a description of focal length & maximum aperture would help determine if they are OK to use...

Well, the 28mm lens appears to be an F3.5 in Ai mount, the 105 is likely an F2.5 Ai mount, the first 50mm looks to be an Ais mount F1.4, the second 50mm , an F2 Ai mount. The 75-240mm is an AF lens by it's serial # & the only one in the batch.. Your 43-86mm does not have a valid serial #. It could be either Pre-Ai or Ai. the 35-105 is an F3.5-4.5 AiS mount ... As for the 3rd party brands, I would suspect that they are liely Ai mount. Ai mount differs from Pre-Ai in the fact that there are 2 sets of aperture numbers on the mount end of the lens & an Ai mount lens will also have an Ai ridge that meshes with the Ai follower tab on the body. These should all fit & work fine on any Nikon DSLR from the D200 up & meter in either manual or aperture priority modes. If you have a base model Nikon DSLR, they will mount & shoot safely (manual mode only) but they will not meter. You would need to use either a hand held meter or the olds "Sunny 16" rule & fine tune it with the LCD/Histogram. What body would you be using them on ?... Here is a link to a listing of Nikon serial #'s & features of Nikkor lenses that I gleaned this info from...

Ah.... a Bellows Nikkor, that explains it... I'm not certain about the Kenko being a TC, although it might be....Does it have glass in it ? If it does, then it is a TC. If it doesn't, then it is more likely an extension tube... I question whether or not the name Kenko was used back in 1968...Maybe you bought this item at a later date ? Then again, since you said you bought it in either Japan or Hong Kong it may be labeled Kenko...Kenko was not a marketed name in the US back then. Most imported items from the Far East, under 3rd party names, were either Vivitar Ponder & Best), Soligor (Allied Impex) or Spiratone... There were some smaller importers (Like Ritz Cameras "Pro" line of gear, but those three were the most prominent

I had a Kenko branded extender, bought in the US for use with my Nikon F's purchased in '67 and '68. Used it with my Nikon 200mm f4.

Hi giovanna,

You sure can. Some of the really old, manual-focus lenses need AI conversion before you can attach it to the camera. I have an old Nikon F (no meter) that I got in 1968 and I had to convert the two lenses I got with it. I also have a manual focus macro lens that must be newer because I didn't have to convert it. I use them in "A" aperture mode to get auto metering and then focus manual (they are super sharp, I use them a lot). I think any of the auto focus lenses will work just fine. Take care & ...
