I have had two lens repairs by C.R.I.S. in Chandler, AZ (criscam.com) They do warranty repair for a large number of companies including Canon, Nikon, and Sigma. They did one Sigma 18-250 lens, which always focused far too slowly, under warranty. The result was so satisfactory that when a second Sigma lens failed, I sent it to them. They brought it back to life for a very reasonable fee.

BTW I have two other Sigmas and they are fine, but the 18-250 is, at best, too soft for my needs. I've replaced it with a Nikon. Far better.

Shooting since 1972 and I also have to knock on wood as never having a problem. I started shooting with Minolta's and when I went digital it was Nikon. I have 4 Nikon's and no problems so far and especially during the summer when I would guess I shoot at least 1000 photos a week. If I do encounter problems I would check out a member here on the Hog who does camera repair and get his opinion before I'd do anything...........

There is a lot of mention here about out of warranty repairs. I would love to do a sort of survey.

How many have had out of warranty repairs done by the manufacturer?
By an independent shop?
Satisfied with work?
Satisfied with price?
How many decided to replace instead of repair after an estimate?
Are there any statistics about need for repair and satisfaction by brand? Is one notably better or worse than another?

I just got a Canon 10-22 back from the manufacturer yesterday. Out of warranty, so it was $156.00. I had just got it back recently and it was also about $150.00. I thought it should had been covered, from the first repair. I had dropped it the first time. The second time, the focus ring was very hard to turn. It was less than a month later. They explained that it was a 'chargeable' repair so I just paid it. I guess they were right butÂ… Hard to take. I am happy with the repair. It works like a new one now. I went to a museum and used it all day, today.

Been shooting Nikons for a quarter century. Before that Olympus. Sent in an Olympus body and they were extremely nice, but the camera was beyond repair. Sent in two Nikon bodies, a lens and flash for repair. Excellent work but I paid for excellent work. Also had two non-manufacturer shop repairs with mixed results. I use my equipment hard and I need to be able to get the best possible service on it. Therefor, I buy only from authorized dealers - NO Grey Market.
