I hear you there. My brother has been with his dept for 6 years now as a FF/Paramedic after starting local here and now he has 16 under him already with more to be hired soon per the dept website when I looked at it yesterday. Only bad part about his dept that I don't like: No Photography Allowed by anyone and no dept photographer. I am trying to get him to talk to the upper brass to see if I can come over and have a talk with them about it and get something changed.

It would be awesome for you, and give them history for their dept if they allowed photography..... Seems like they would want things documented.....

It would be nice, but first they need to get rid of the turmoil that is going on there as there has been quite a bit over the last year. Hopefully one day I can see it happen.

Some call it turmoil, others call it politics.....too bad you have to go thru so many chains to get something approved....You'll do it.... If you believe you can achieve....(corny right? lol)

Once things calm down there I will talk to my brother again to get me permission to come talk to the chief and upper brass to get something worked out. I have a 3" 3-ring binder full of info. already and am still adding to it so between that and my experience, hopefully something will work out in the future.

A nice perk about being the dept photographer is that I get to do some neat photos once in a while. As part of the dept. open house, the dept. takes people up in the Snorkel truck to get a view of the city from the air. I went up last to get some photos. Here are a few for you to enjoy. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

What a perk indeed! Great view

That is a good looking town. It is around 3000 folks larger, than here where I live, so not much larger as towns go. It is still on a scale of size, that does not overwhelm, yet large enough to provide necessary services and shopping. A person can get to know and be known there. That gives a really nice ambiance to living in such a place.

My family is quite know here. With two relatives owning their own businesses in town as well as the family is all born and raised in the city it is fair to say that many people here know us. Some of the businesses have been around so long that we are the 3rd or 4th generation to go to them and the businesses are still owned by the same family. That is what I call small town. Going into a place like that where it is all the same staff for over 20 years currently and you're treated like family. First name basis or last, sometimes discounts, always like to talk about anything and everything, same small store at the same location, helpful. Know a number of the small business owners here in the city which is nice. It is a city that you can't go wrong in.

Now there's an idea for some income - if you own a truck with a bucket. Offer to let photographers go up and take pictures. Tree cutters have buckets that go way up. Insurance might be a concern, though.

I never thought of tree trimmers. I just happen to know a guy who owns his own tree service including a bucket truck. Thanks for the idea. Next time I see him I will talk to him about it and see what he thinks and put his response here.

My tree guy is very conscientious. I wouldn't even ask him to let me ride up there. His insurance is very expensive because he also has a helper.

The one I know has 3 employees and 4 trucks (including the pickup). Who know, enough sweet talking and maybe a few photos to help promote his business and he could say yes. Worth a shot.
