You will be going through the Texas Hill Country and the Big Bend area in Texas. Depending on your point of view and depending upon how tired of travelling you are, there will be some nice, but rather stark, countryside. Lots of cacti and hills. We call them mountains in Texas, but anywhere else they are hills. However, Texas has miles and miles of miles and miles. You can easily get bored and forget to keep looking. Have a fun trip!

Picacho Peak Arizona,

I second that. About half-way between Phoenix and Tucson, Picacho Peak is certainly the most photogenic spot in the area. Here's my version, taken from the highway.

Depending on the time of your travels the Blue Bonnets in the hill country are great subjects

Wow, I hope you have a lot of time, memory cards and batteries, there is a ton of stuff on your route. The FL state capitol building in Tallahassee for starters. Naval Aviation Museum in P-cola. Ships in Mobile Bay. If you can't find a photo op (or good food) in Nawlins, you just ain't trying. Casinos in Lake Charles.

The Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto Monument near Houston, plus a really cool bridge from Baytown to Houston (may not be on I-10 but it is close). Nasa, the Kemah Boardwalk. In San Antonio there is the Riverwalk, Tower of the Americas, The Alamo (remember that;-)?) Some of the best Tex-Mex you'll find anywhere. Natural Bridge Cavern. Farther west Ft. Davis and the McDonald Observatory. The Big Bend area is fabulous, but farther south than you probably want to go. BTW Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in TX is 8,751', much taller than anything in the eastern US. Mt Mitchell NC, the tallest mountain east of the MS river is only 6,684'. El Paso has more great Tex-Mex and while dry and dusty does have some very nice and tall mountains surrounding it. That will get you through TX, somebody else will have to take it from there.

Have fun and bring back lots of pics to share here on UH.

Eric

I have attended this man's workshops and have several of his books. You might give his web site a look see for opportunities in Texas.

Time for me to add my 2 cents. Texas has been covered as well as the east. Now don't forget New Mexico, Santa Fe has some of the most beautiful sunsets, Taos, the many ancient Indian ruins. Just western Colorado has Pagosa Springs, my avatar is kayaking on a reservoir outside of town, Durango up through Silverton into Ouray & up to Grand Mesa. Or through Monument Valley in Utah, the under rated Glen Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef up to Moab & Arches & Canyonlands. Through Arizona with the Grand Canyon, I prefer the north rim, less commercial, the Mogollon Rim. Big Bear Lake in Ca. outside San Bernodino & Death Valley, etc. Sorry, I just get carried away sometimes, there are endless possibilities especially if you get off the interstates. These are just a few of the reasons my husband & I chose to full-time in our motorhome, never enough time to see everything & there are always photo ops around every corner. You didn't say how long your trip was but I hope you were maybe planning a year minimum with all the suggestions:) Happy travels & keep your camera on your lap.

Jan,

While you have excellent suggestions, I have been to most of the places you listed in NM, CO, & UT; re-read the first post, I believe they will be traveling along I-10. Your suggestions are well north of that road.

I am envious of your RV though...

Eric

Eric you are right about the direction of most places, but if we can find a way to detour thru a place while going somewhere else we will. It adds a little spice to life.
