This is very interesting.

A more efficient internal combustion engine

This thing is fascinating to watch in action.

Kind of a rotary, piston engine hybrid. Cool.

Amazing to watch in motion. I just wonder how much vibration would be created if one spark plug would begin to foul.

Yep = reminds me of the Wankel engine, but with more moving parts. Is that a good thing?

How 'bout a compromise! The rotary engine used for many years in aircraft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_engine . ;)

This would have been more interesting to work on than my 36 Ford Rumble seat, rag top,V8-60 engine with cable mechanical brakes... [adjust brake cables weekly]

Took me 1/2 day to figure out there was an internal bolt into motor block that had to be removed in order to get 1 of the (2) water pumps off engine. In order to remove the bolt... U had to drain water and remove hose. No books in those days about repairing motors etc. . .

I wonder if Mazda will be the first to use it?

This is interesting. Having designed truck engine components such as crankshafts during the late 1970s I am impressed. I would think sealing the sliding cylinder and cylinder head interface would be a challenge. As I remember the Wankel engine designers had learning experiences with respect to seals.

I hope the Duke design works. I would not think the spark plug fowling would be and issue.

more like a combination of a two stroke and a four stroke it uses the piston as a valve similar to a two stroke. the port is on top of the cylinder like a four stroke as opposed to the ports on the sides of the cylinders of a two stroke.very interesting article dook I always enjoy checking out new technology!!! thanks !!!

I will wait and let the rest of you try this first.
Showing it in operation with a cad program is one thing but actually running one of these for a 100,000 miles may prove to be a huge problem.
That thing wobbling on a single pin looks like a potential trouble spot.

Isn't regular gas around 87 octane. So you would need to use high grade gas other than regular if 91 is needed. Then again they are trying to push the ethanol gas the E-85 and the new E15 which I read not to use if your vehicle is younger than 2012 because it eats gaskets and hoses because of too much alcohol and is only 86 octane and it readily separates and you burn the alcohol off and then are only using 86 octane gas.

I had a 1953 Mercury flat head v8 with the dual waterpumps they had the internal boat and were also the motor mount. Built heavy and made to last. You could actuall rebuild them back then and they were kinda fun to work on.
This looks interesting and wonder about that rotational vibration.
