Can anyone recommend a good bridge camera that uses RAW format around £200 - £250.

The current ones by Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony and Fuji are all good choices depending on what YOUR requirements are.
I chose the Canon SX50 and am VERY happy with it. Others don't like it. Some like the Panasonic for its constant f/2.8, but it lacks other advantages of the SX50. Each one has its own high-points and drawbacks.
OK thanks, I will look at online reviews for those manufacturers. :)

If you decide on a model, or models you want more info on, use the UHH Search function at the top of the page and enter the model you want to check out and see what others have posted about it.
Xz-2, Lx-7 are my two favorites. The Rx-100 is outside that price range.
Check out Olympus Stylus 1

Price range is roughly $335-415 US dollars...If I converted right.
Gosh, pesonally I don't find the sx50 heavy at all! In fact, compared to my dslr it is "extremely" light.
Regarding size..it is a bridge camera, not a tiny put in your pocket P&S. But still much smaller than my dslr. And Definitely is not "quite large".
I suggest you go to a store and hold sx50 and some other bridge cameras and see for yourself which one is the best size for you. Then check the user reviews and this site for information from actual users. Then check out photos from the camera.
Hello Ellern, I appreciate your comment, I did consider buying buying an SX50 but when I examined it my first impression was the weight and size compared with my Olympus E-PL1. I agree it's a lot smaller and lighter than a DSLR which is why I got rid of mine some years back.
Your advice to go into a store and handle some bridge cameras is a good idea, here in the UK PC World have cameras on display and that's where Herlich should go, the another is Argos.
Cheers,
John
OK, thanks for the replies.
After much research I ended up with Canon SX50 and could not be happier.
If you can up your budget some, I think the new (to be released in March) Fujifilm S1 camera fits your criteria. I've used a Pentax X70 24X Zoom bridge camera for several years, and have enjoyed the convenience. It did not have RAW, but not many, if any, did back then.
I include a shot taken with the X70 that was at full zoom in good sunlight. Not as good as some of the finer cameras, but nice enough for a good print. Also, I did not know tortoises could run so fast.
I've been looking to upgrade to one of the super-zoom bridge cameras, and would like to work with RAW. The fact that the S1 is weather resistant is probably my deciding factor for this camera. The others brands I've considered are Sony, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Samsung and Panasonic. It would be difficult to decide if I had to select today, but I don't mind waiting a month or so to get what I want.
Here is a list of my must-have criteria:
1) 16 MP - higher resolution and most are newer sensors with better ISO and lower noise
2) RAW plus JPEG recording because I'm lazy and don't want to post process all my photos, but want the opportunity
3) Manual focus
4) Some form of continuous shooting
5) Electronic viewfinder
6) Pop-up flash
7) Hot shoe for flash
8) Li-ion battery - BC I don't want to use AAA batteries and as an aside; I like carrying two extra batteries with me in case I get crazy mad with shooting.
9) high speed & large capacity storage media
10) remote shutter release
11) image stabilization
12) 50X zoom or better
13) Tripod mount
Some nice features I'd like to have:
1) video capability with sound
2) wireless capability
3) GPS
4) multiple exposure capability
5) interval shooting
6) panorama capability
7) HDR (dynamic range)
