I believe that if you were to attend any art class you would be criticized for having your main subject "centered." In the arts circles this is a NO - NO! Try to follow the "rule of thirds" and place the center of your main subject somewhere on one of the connecting lines. If you don't understand what I am talking about contact an art teacher in your local community for a demonstration. Once you learn to do this you will find out that your photos will improve greatly aesthetically! Otherwise, the photos look pretty good!

I believe that the photographer would be better served if they went to a photography class versis art class.
And as for going to an Art teacher for instructions on photography, I must ask you - would you go to a veterinarian for a heaart operation?
While the "rule of thirds" does generally apply, there are times when subject matter in a photo is properly placed in the center because of surrounding matter. Some beg a framing effect.
No rules in art or photography are absolutely set in stone.

Is it just me or do some images tend to get a bit pixelated when posted?

A lot could depend on your monitor,& or the monitors that others are viewing from. I just installed a new 23 inch HP Led with 1,000,000 to 1 ratio & your lily (top photo looks great) The black & whites could use a crop to close in on the flower.I don't have much luck with macro(too much blur) so I just tend to zoom in then crop.Keep posting & remember: take lots of shots cause you can always delete. Great thing about digital.

I am a retired Professional Photographer, a member of the Art League in Bay City which has a classification now in Photography and have been judged by local (State) artists who gave me this bit of advice, and since I have used it my photos have received higher ratings, all the way to State Competitions.
I have taught lesson and private students in photography both privately and through Community Education classes for many years. Does that mean that all my students always follow my advice? No, but all I can do it put it out there and try to show them how to make things better.

In reality, photography IS a form of art, whether you accept it or not. I do not want to start an argument, just stating facts. True, it is not an ancient form, but never the less, it is a form of the Arts!

@ Bob Curtis I am just starting but whole heartedly, agree my club always has 0ne artist on the judge list for our contests. And I have seen marked improvements in my pics with these tips and also have began to read how to mix colors. This seems to be a better way to understand scene recognition and combinations in pics.

Art begins at the conception of your vision of what you
believe you are seeing not it some post process where
you decide what is best. You will preceive the reality of what you think you see and process to arrive at the point of conception.

Yes it's art but first it's a craft to learn and apply by
"the rules" once you get crafty at your work, will it
then be the art of photography.

These are not snapshots. these are an artists vision of his reality. Well done Bryan...thanks for thinking outside the box...very refreshing.
