I am going to go try to stop the same action in a bit. I just have to find the right background. There aren't many spruce branches without a lot of snow.

You see, we had so much snow come down overnight, that my road isn't plowed at all. & I do mean public highway, rural road, not my driveway.

jacklpine good looking horse. no snow here lots of wind.

Thanks, but for this challenge, it's that I stopped snow flakes in mid fall.

8-)

I rather doubt any of you will think I've stopped much action.

These are taken from indoors through windows.

The little pine can be seen through a window with a screen. I sat on a stool a few feet from the window, so maybe the snow on the screen 'might' count.

The spruce is 60 or more feet from the window. It is just possible some snowflakes may have been frozen in mid-fall.

:-P

I was at Cannon Beach, Or. In my hotel room. I had left part of a sandwich on the deck railing and these guys came to share. Not much time to compose the shot.

pg 3 - great shot - would have done well in the fly by/drive by /from the hip session too.... Seagulls here steal ice creams off unsuspecting visitors all the time and can be jolly aggressive!

pg 3 - is this ten pin bowling for the elderly? Looks like a lot of fun! Love the piggies also.

Good Morning! Welcome to 'Freezing the Action,' one of my favorite topics! When researching the topic, it didn't take long to discover that there are many differing opinions among professional photographers as to what the term, 'freezing he action' really means. For most photographers, it means capturing the motion of a subject with sharpness and no blur. For others, it means capturing the motion of the subject with sharpness and no blur, but also capturing the velocity of the movement in the background. Here are the links for two good articles demonstrating each technique:

Stopping the action with a fast shutter speed - your photo is captured, with subject sharp, and no blur in the picture.

Freezing the action in which your subject is sharp while still showing the velocity of movement. This can be obtained by physically following/moving the subject with your camera after you have locked the subject into focus.

Many of you are already masters at freezing the action. I can't wait to see your examples!

Can't say it hasn't happened to me, trying to catch up on all the great posts here on the challenge.

Good start MG. Here are a couple of mine from the archives. Now I have to go read your links to see if I can improve.

Fish, my feed bags kind of look like your flight deck operations at times. I haven't caught a concurrent take off and landing yet.

Yeah, but they look great. Of all those carriers I was on, I never had a camera and could have taken some awesome shots both day and night. And.........the weather at sea can be just spectacular to say the least.
