I'm interested in purchasing the Nikon 3200 as my first SLR camera. I've done some research, but I would like some feedback from anyone that knows about this camera for a beginner. Is it easy to use and what is the picture quality like?

THANKS!!

The D3200 can't be beat for a DSLR for beginners. At 24.3 mega pixels the photo's are top notch.

I prefer to buy refurbished. You save money, and you get a camera that is like new, maybe even better. Adorama offers good extended warranties.

With the current instant rebate, the new one is a better deal.

Great camera and great picture quality. I have helped a couple of friends when getting the D3100, and both have been very happy with it.

D3300 or D5300 - don't buy a soon to be discontinued camera.

I have the D3100. It's a nimble camera -- capable of working with different lenses for different situations. It's not intimidating so you can practice with the settings and learn your way around it. That new price is great, too, on the D3200.

I actually know a girl (actually a former intern/second shooter) that does weddings with a d3100. Remember, these "entry level" DSLR's are leaps ahead of the first digital cameras many of us started with when we made the switch to digital. remember how much the D70 was? Shot several weddings at 6.1 megapixels. Never had a complaint.

Do the higher end cameras have more bells and whistles? Definately, but it isn't the camera, it is the photographer. In my humble opinion, the entry level DSLR's are more capable than the film cameras I used in the 80's... So don't let anyone talk you out of what you can afford, and a fantastic camera to get your feet wet.

I have read some great reviews for this camera, and some really positive ones in this forum. I too am looking for a new DSLR and as a beginner, have paid attention to some suggestions that I spend some time with some guides on what you want a camera to do and to learn the features of the camera that will meet your needs. I was also looking at the Nikon D5200/5300 but honestly, think the D3200/3300 will meet my needs. Also, I need to read up on lenses to get something that makes sense for me and the types of photos I will most often be shooting, which you may also want to consider, as opposed to buying the camera with the stock lense. Jerryc41 suggests refurbished and I have never had experience with one of those so if anone wants to add something about those choices, they may benefit you (and me, as well). Good luck in your decision.

Refurbished can often be the way to go. 2 of my 3 current cameras are from Cameta as refurbished. One thing to watch for is the Nikon rebates. They can make new less expensive than refurbished. Just do your homework.

The only reason to avoid buying a soon to be discontinued camera is if the camera is a lemon. Otherwise, who cares? Your camera is out of date within a year of buying it. My wife has a Nikon D5000 and I have a Nikon D90. Both are about five years old. They work as good as when they were new and I expect they will work for a number of years to come, unless I bite the bullet and buy an FX camera :-)
