It is ultrasharp, lightweight and one of my favorite features is that once you have taken your photo, you can zoom back to the 18mm end and there is a lock so the lens isn't "drifting" when not in use. Agree---had it since it hit the market and got new model when they upgraded. Takes sharp photos but lacks some in low light which my D7000 makes up for most of the time. Have not had a chance to try the Nikon 28-300mm but almost positive Sigma or Tamron makes one close and at a much cheaper price.........
