when we talk about good glass can we say zeiss is the best.

Put it this way, if someone is selling a Zeiss lens at a nice price and you have a use for it - snap it up. Last year I walked into a thrift store and found a Pentax ME with a 50mm 1.7 and a very strange Pentax SMC 28mm f2. The lens looked more like a 135mm than a 28mm and was deceptively heavy. So I bought the package and when I checked out the lens I found that the 28mm was made by Zeiss for Pentax in a short-lived deal in the early 1970s. Bottom line is I got a great lens to mount on my m4/3 bodies at a bargain price. Oh yes, it takes great pictures with stunning color rendition.

Good glass can improve image quality, but a bad photo is still a bad photo. It helps to have good gear but it helps even more to know how to use it.

Too many of those "Good Glass" and I fear your image quality will take a hit! :)

I think the photographer, camera, and lens should be of comparable quality for the most efficient results. If on is much weaker than the others, it needs to be upgraded to match the others. If one is much stronger than the others, it will generally be wasted.

The best photographer will not create masterpieces with poor equipment. And Tiger Woods will not win the Masters with average clubs. :-)

As in golf or photoography or any thing else, the brain behind the tool determines the quality. A pro golfer will play better golf with a croquet mallet than a poor golfer with the most expensive clubs.

REALLY?!?! Are you SURE?!?!

What about the SAME pro golfer playing with both the most expensive clubs AND the croquet mallet; will his game be any different using one or the other?

Depends on whether they are playing golf of croquet.
But what has all this to do with the original question?

The question is about good glass... NOT the person using it.

Which is EXACTLY why I responded earlier that all other things being equal, better glass gives better images.

So the introduction of photographer skill is both inappropriate and irrelevant to the discussion at hand. ;)

Zeiss or Leica, both are excellent. Nikon and Canon every now and then make great glass. Macallan 18 never strikes out, Knob Creek is pretty special also.

:[/quot All pro golfers use " the best clubs " And if 1 brand won every tournament all golfers would be using that brand. Same with "good glass" Some pros use canon, some nikon, some sigma etc. I don't thinkt here would be a spit worth of difference in the quality of work if pro photographer A used Nikon F4 and an 80-200 2.8 or a canon 1Dx and an 80-200 2.8.

Good Glass = Clear sharp details in picture(routinely) , no problems (unless you drop it), a great picture is the person taking pic, with a vision to see, a cell phone have taken some mighty good pics, have one on my wall.

"Does the brand of hammer make you a better carpenter?"

Yes, My father was an excellent carpenter and he said that a well balanced hammer made work less tiring and less painful.

I hope I got my point across. What are you a frustrated English teacher? Laughter is good, compassion is better.
