Another problem with forums is that people don't delve into the issue enough & respond with inappropriate information. A quick look at the OP's profile & posts revealed the camera brand & model in question. From there, explicit suggestions came be made...Not all posters are experienced enough to offer up all of the pertinent information required for a proper answer. It behooves responders to do a little research before responding instead of just offering up information that may not be pertinent .. Had my search not revealed the camera brand & model, the information I offered would not have been the same...

One of the problems with this forum is the compulsive need to answer with information that subverts the original question and just muddies the water, especially when important information is missing, like what type of camera is being used. The OP asked about the comparison between two lens types. The answers were given in the first few posts. All considerations as to the requirements of the cameras was not part of the original question. In short order the discussion migrates to something totally different. It is not a service to the original questioner.

I'm sorry that some Nikon meters don't function with totally manual lenses. You can always go into live mode and do a test shot and then consult the histogram, something that is advisable anyway, regardless of the camera brand, internal metering or not.

I agree completely. Much of the information offered in many discussions is irrelevant, redundant to other replies, seemingly functions as a venue for off topic social interaction when an explicit request for technical data or advice is offered. Much of many discussions has little pertinent information, is old school and out of date, or simply wrong. Discussions do not need to diverge away from the OP request unless the OP requests it. What starts out as a simple request has its answer buried in page after page of topic verbosity. I'm especially not fond of answers of the "I can't answer as I don't know." type as an answer to a question, again, simply clogging the works. This post, itself, is a typical reply/result of mutating discussions that lose track of the original inquiry. End of discussion.

For Christmas my husband bought me a lensbaby fisheye. They are affordable and if you like them they have interchangeable lens. I have a Canon 6D and I have really enjoyed playing with my fisheye.

Yeah, Ebay scares me a little bit. That's why I was asking for suggestions for trustworthy sites. I'm going to probably look for a regular, low-cost lens.
I just want to get some experience with fish-eye before jumping into a higher priced lens, but I tried a really cheapo fish-eye screw on and it fell apart after the second useage. Literally fell apart.

I have to interject here that I appreciate all of your replies and sometimes if they don't go directly to the question I've asked or others have asked I just kind of edit out the non-relevant parts and absorb the 'important' stuff. I've learned a ton of information by posting here. Thanks.

BTW, I've been a Canon guy for most or my life. This is my first Nikon and I really like it. The next one I buy will be a "big" body Nikon. I wanted to start low-cost as you've probably noticed, I do with everything, and a nice light camera for the type of shooting I do.

Now I've got to figure out what a "lensbaby" fisheye is...lol.
EDIT: never mind.....just googled it. Nice little lens but more costly than I want to start with.

I have most of the lenses I need and am now looking for a fisheye I can screw onto my 18 - 55mm lens when I see a shot that looks like a fisheye effect would make it more interesting.
I'm not even sure if any of these low cost screw ons are worth it but thought I'd run it past some of the knowledgeable folk here to get some feedback.
Thanks in advance.

I think I would stay away from any lens that just screws onto your existing lens, because the IQ would most probably not to your satisfaction. A real fish-eye lens, or zoom would be the way to go! If you are a "Canon guy", the Canon 8-15mm is a very capable lens in this category!

Yes, as some of you have alluded to, I really would like to try out this type of photography before spending a lot of money on a lens.
Funny, but with all the camera equipment I've had over the years I've never had a fisheye.

Another question.....I'm a bit quizzical about buying any used camera equipment. Can some of you enlighten me as to safe sites where I could at least expect to find good, working used lenses please.

I have a local dealer that I built a rapport with and have bought a lot of used equipment from.

Babies usually cost more than you think they would. :P
I'm a Canon guy myself. I found that getting the best glass even though it cost more, is better than settling for the lesser ones. I can use them on any EOS body which is cheaper to upgrade than the lenses.

Have the Bower 8mm Fisheye. Yes manual exposure, manual focus. set it to infinity and f/8, In manual mode on the 60D, like mine. Use shutter speed change. Only draw back is Metadata shows lens size as 50mm and and f/0 on shot taken. This shot was taken with lens, and camera level on 60D, to NOT expose the Circular Fish eye this shot.

tried a 0.5x screw-on with my ff camera, got a circle image that was passable. tried it on my pentax 645D, screwed it on my 45mm f 2.8 . it turned it into a 22.5 mm lens with pretty good I q. better than $5000.00 for their 25mm lens. well it was for me.
