For me it would be the B&W. No question. Great color shots are very common. But great B&W? That's a different story.

Generally I agree with you. Even though I like the B&W shot the black sky just throws it off for me. Not enough to be critical of it, since I don't know what, if anything, could be done to change it. It's a fine shot, but to me the balance is off just enough that I prefer the color version. I guess that overall it's just a bit too dark for me.

I like both images, but which one would I want hanging on the wall? That would be the color one.

Oh well. I choose B&W. Color would look out of place among the Sexton and Bond B&W's.

As I said, it is really personal choice, although with B&W he primary thing that you are dealing with is luminosity and the manipulation of luminosity to add visual impact.

Besides, I have a very poor sense of color (probably why I like to stick with B&W).

Excellent example. In colour, I can see a brown fence, brown twigs of something near the fence, brown wood of the cabin, brown trees in the background, on a field of white snow. Not much colour contrast there.

Black and white worked beautifully in this photo.

That's about it there was a group of us meeting at undies in hopes of getting some sunrise color but it never happened. So the color image is almost its own sepia (brown and white) tone.

I go to many photo exhibitions. I see a lot of museums and galleries hang Black and White and Sepia photos.

Question: When do you photogs think about that? Is it sometimes better to go Black and White from an artistic or technical standpoint and why?

it's not a question of one versus the other. it's the issue of content.

Yes, after giving this some thought I realize you are right. Not a question of either or but rather of the value each medium offers the finished art.
