Sometimes it's ONLY the image we should think about.
Great work as usual Joe.
Looked at these and decided that, to avoid comparison, I'm going to check that all of my future shots do NOT include any birds. The photo of the Great Grey, though it may not enjoy the level of technical proficiency that some of the others do, is one of the most dynamic bird shots I've ever seen.

Usually when I go for birds I have an agenda. I'm after a particular hawk or owl or perhaps a rare song bird. When that happens, and I find it, I'm so excited over finding it that I'll take a lot of images, covering as many angles as I can. There is rarely enough time to fine tune my camera to the 'enth degree to get the best photograph I would like. When I see the results and I raise an eyebrow, then I know It's back to basics. The next set was just such an exercise.
These are all shot in manual mode. A lot of histogram viewing took place and a lot of shots were missed when I viewed the LCD for results.
Bird species didn't matter. Backgrounds, angles, subject positions, exposures and focus did matter. All of these were practice shots.

All beautiful shots. I especially love the turkey. Good capture as I know they are very quick to get away!

These are fabulous! You've made a good point about "fine tuning" the exposure instead of constantly looking for the next subject.
Having proven yourself a master of image quality, would you be willing/able to post a write up around what you look for when evaluating a shot you just made and applying the fine tuning? Clearly, you do it well.
These are all exceptional ! great job ..
