It's a bit unfair to point the finger at staff. It's common for bag thieves to empty them in a bathroom or under table to avoid the risk of being nabbed with it. Even leaving the bag in a cistern.

Because of where and how we were seated, there was no one else nearby except staff. It was early and in a very small room. All seated around one long table with banquets. No one in the room but us. We were later told how it was done. The tour host said it had happened once before in same restaurant and the manager apologized and said he would fire the person responsible. (The bags were later found in the rest room) After that, I learned not to set my purse on the floor.
The rest of the trip was great. The people were extremely nice.

I'm a female, a little older than you. I would not carry everthing every time but I can recommend the slingbag I use. The sling bag is a Kata 3N130.

This sling has additional straps and rearrangement possibilities so it can be used by a left hand or right hand shooter and used as a backpack as well as a sling bag. The shoulder straps are comfortable and all straps can be tucked into parts of the bag so they are out of the way when not is use.

This bag has a yellow interior so it helps to find things. In the bag is a wide strap that can be used with a small luggage trolley. I can carry a variety of lenses, a D300s with a battery pack, filters, a right angle finder, extra batteries, a lens pen, a blower, clothes, my cell phone, kleenex, an asthma inhaler, a case for my glasses and more. As I said, I don't carry everything all the time and in some places, I use the luggage trolley.

There is an attachment for a tripod. My Manfrotto O55MF4 and ball head fit when I want them. However, I have always put my tripod and monopod in my checked luggage when traveling.

I understand your desire to want to experiment with everything but am inclined to agree with other comments. You will probably enjoy your trip and your photography more if you settle on a smaller amount of equipment and really try to push it to the limits.

In an experiment last year, knowing how we all face the comment-you must have a really good camera, I showed a variety of people 4x6 prints or jpegs from my DSLR, a Coolpix 7100 and my IPhone. Not one person noted the difference but commented on how they liked the pictures.

This is a totally inappropriate response! Apologies are in order. This forum should never be a vehicle for such comments. I would recommend a significant suspension for this author. Bill Thomson

I should not respond to this since I have filed a report of an issue, but I did want to mention that your profile contains the word, "Technoligy"; did you mean, "Technology"?

I am sorry to the OP.
My methods may be a little unorthodox but my hope is the admin will put the brakes on the Captilitation Monster. Nobody else seems to care but when he hits your post you will feel it like a punch in the gut. 8-)
Check him out. ;) not a single photo.
This forum does not need this type commentary from anonymous posters with bad intentions.
It will get worse before it gets better. :?

I think your opinion would bear more weight.
I trust you will review his post before you endorse the idea's of deebrat :-)

That Canon SX260 is the P&S I used to create my P&S 3 D sbs photos. It is a very good camera.

That even reads different from somebody who actually takes photos. :-o

It is not clear exactly to whom this comment was directed, but if it was me, I have the following to say:

1). I am not anonymous. My name is Bill Thomson, and I am a PhD Licensed Psychologist who has had the privilege over several decades of working with the parents and extended families of kids and young adults who are mentally, physically, emotionally or socially challenged. My first objection to your original post was the cavalier use of the "r-word", a practice which in mental health circles (and dare I say, in civilized society generally) is on a par with the use of the "n-word".

2). My second major criticism of your original post was the arrogant way you dismissed a reasonable suggestion by a new participant in the forum. While he/she may not have responded to the original question in what you considered to be a reasonable fashion, I have little doubt that far more people on a London-Paris trip have availed themselves of his methods over what we have been suggesting to the OP.

3). It is true that I have posted no photos as yet to the forum. Shortly after I joined, a close family member began to experienced significant medical issues, and I have used the forum as a welcome break from some pretty terrifying realities. The patient is now on the road to recovery, and I will post soon.

I stand by my previous post, and would hope that your comments in the future would be reasoned, thoughtful and considerate.

I don't plan to run on the streets with a bunch of equipment in a back pack but I do plan to hand or backpack carry on he planes & train. While I haven't been to London I have spent time in Paris and Avignon.I found the people to be kind and fun. Because I'm new to digital photography, I want to spend as much time as possible with my D7100. It seems that I have become a lens junkie with little talent. I still plan to purchase a 70-200 f2.8 Nikon before I go. I am looking for a good quality pocket camera now. Sony is high on the list.

Pardon me if I stray somewhat off topic here. I have not been to Paris for decades, but my memories are of a beautiful and friendly city. My wife and I had dinner at Cafe de l'Abbay, a small underground restaurant on, of course, Rue de l'Abbay. I remember the almost mystical pictures we took as we exited the restaurant late at night. A quiet street, reminiscent of a Charles Dickens tale. I wish you the same enjoyment of the city that we experienced and look forward to your posting some images of the Paris that tourists seldom see.

Wonderful that you are going to both London and Paris; Paris is my favorite city -- and I have traveled extensively in Europe, Australia, and the Americas. In fact I will be in Paris myself in April and plan to take some more photos.

I would advise anyone traveling in Europe to not use a backpack; a backpack and/or Nike shoes immediately identify you as an American tourist -- i.e. a target for theft.

I find that a couple pouches mounted on a Think Tank belt can carry all the lenses I need while touring around. This keeps them relatively safely stored yet easily accessible.

Everyone dresses the same now and there is no "American look" anymore. It is very difficult to discern an American tourist from locals. Backpacks are everywhere.
The only way a person can tell if another is an American tourist is if the other acts like one.
