This next set of shot's were taken on the same day on the way home from Rockport at Thanksgiving. When we were driving thru Goliad, I looked up and saw this mission on the hill. Here is what I came away with.
Part II:
Presidio La Bahia
Parc Guell walkway
La Pedera roof curves
window arches & St George

Salt -love your horses and, yes, they are curvy. #2 like the contrast between the vertical trees balanced by the soft curves of Cadence. The curves from neck and belly take me to the rear of the frame. #3 you have several arcs going on - the wings yes but also the prominent branch on the right arcs and ends directly over the bird so my eye goes from the strong tree to the bird in flight. The smaller tree on left helps direct my eye also.
Mary - thank you. You do have several arcs happening in this image. The one you mentioned, the mound of snow that intersects with the tree and the lines in the road, and the road disappearing between snow mound and barn. I like the balance between hard lines and shapes and curved ones.
CHuckles - thanks for the feedback. All of us need our imaginations kick started now and again, dont we? In the mission shot you have an overall arc from left up over the top and down to the right with lots of arcs within. The foreground is also a curved line . Sandwiched between are several horizontal lines and placement to the left, to me, all make a pleasing composition. #3 made me look for the focal point - the white arch, middle opening and top arc led my eye to the statue.
Judy - thanks for the feedback. I originally thought that also, but wasnt really sure.

Another Archive...Arcs and curved lines for sure-
p6 Missed this one, Judy. I like the way the lighting emphasizes the architecture. Hmm - arcs, Architecture. Wonder if there is a connection. Architecture does use a lot of curved lines...

Me too!
Awesome! The stones interspersed in the structural support is really cool! Love the bird's eye view of the second one!

Thanks Pat. I know I posted a lot of shots, but the mission is so full of tragic history that to see such beauty inspired me! Thank you for your feedback. :-D

Welcome to the "Arc/Curved Line" Challenge
Before I begin, let me say up front, I am NOT an authority on this subject. A post last year got me thinking and I wanted to know more. The best way to learn, they say, is to try and teach something. Hoping some of the more experienced will correct and/or add to what I've found.
The purpose of this challenge: explore the use of arcs, or curves, in composing images. Curved lines can bring drama, an eye pleasing element, and rhythm to an image by leading the eye into/out of the photograph, to a point of interest, or act as a frame. Curves are rhythmic, graceful, dynamic and add energy to a composition. They exist in nature, landscapes still life, architecture, portraits. Check out this excellent article.
http://digital-photography-school.com/composing-with-curvesI also recommend this 3.21 minute YouTube (upbeat music, no spoken words and a really clear explanation of curves and other composition elements.) "5 Photography Composition Tips with 70+ Examples"
http://youtu.be/7XSsV0ZddeU Not all arcs or curved lines work -or mine didn't anyway and I will post some.
So let's start! Show me your arcs, curved lines, and S curves.
