I asked before but didn't get my question answered.... Does anyone know where to go to get Photoshop CS6 without having to do the ridiculous subscription route that Adobe is now requiring? It's a shame that they're doing this and I think ultimately it will be the cause of their demise.

Should be easy at any photo-retailer like B&H, Adorama etc. Should be available as disks, the cloud came later, one after CS6.
Be a student and get the student rate. I once used my son who was a student to get the student rate. Now at 51 I'm back in college earning my bachelors in photojournalism.

It may not be this easy. Adobe stopped selling boxed versions of PS CS6 in May of last year but some of the retailers may still have the boxed version in stock.

Actually, many photographers recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements as sufficient for the most of us.

I beg to differ as the elements is really poor substitute to the 'real stuff'.
I recommend GIMP vs Photoshop CS# as an alternative to the really crappy PSE (any version).

I beg to differ. Are you familiar with Elements 11? Starting with this version, Adobe brought this "poor" program closer to the "real stuff". Here are the features now shared by these two programs.
- Actions are now loaded (instead of being installed in their folder within Elements), just like in Photoshop.
- Layer Styles are now loaded too, just like in Photoshop.
- Refine Edge is not the same old feature; Adobe generously gave Elements the same one used in Photoshop.
- The Raw Converter uses the same process (Process 2012) as the one in Lightroom and Photoshop. The only difference is that the Raw Converter in Elements doesn't have as many features.
http://www.mattk.com/2012/09/26/why-photoshop-elements-11-is-the-best-version-of-elements-yet/Then, in Elements 12 Adobe raised this program another notch, getting it closer to Photoshop with the Content-Aware Move tool (Think Photoshop's Patch tool).
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/photoshop-elements-12-feature-tour/content-aware-move-tutorial-video/By the way, there is more. In previous versions Adobe had already given Elements other Photoshop-only features: in Elements 9, a built-in layer mask and in Elements 10, the ability to write text on a path, shape, or selection.
If you were a CS user you would realize how short changed you are with PSE. Sure it can fill a need but when it comes down to it, it is a total rip-off.

Would you buy a Skoda and expect the same functionality as a Rolls Royce?
EBay is where I would look but why? You can get Adobe CC for 9.99/mo?
I rather suspect it's going to get increasingly difficult to find CS6 in the box. Adobe has committed to the subscription service and really has no need to box anything any more.
Software isn't like a pocket knife that you can buy and use the rest of your life. It will, inevitably, require some amount of upgrade. With the subscription at $9.99/month, you can use it for nearly 4 years (completely upgraded as you go) at the same cost as the boxed stuff (which may be limited on upgradability). Plus, you get Lightroom thrown in!!
Just a thought.
The SUBSCRIPTION ROUTE is WAAY MORE BETTER than the old way. I have been using Adobe products since CS 1.5! Look at the cost of updates over time! An update will cost you more than the subscription model. You can actually talk to tech support rather than paying a per incident fee. You also do not get the answer to a problem of "SUCKS to be you Sahib. Perhaps you should put in a suggestion for a bug fix and perhaps before the bones of your great grand children turn to dust, we will get around to fixing this problem." With the subscription YOU CAN CANCEL and stop giving Adobe money. They are MUCH quicker to fix things because they know this too! At $10 per month, how long will it take you to pay for the software? How many updates will you have to buy in that same time frame.
If you are still determined to give Adobe money with no accountability for their product, try
www.videoguys.com. They are a very good source or go out to ebay. Adobe will transfer licensing.
