Yes, a new life. They come here so as to let us know that we are starting a new life, that of springtime life where their honking is music to our ears. If there were words to those honking songs they might be:
Take off your long johns,
The winter no longer bonds,
I will strive,
To give you a hi five,
As the ice goes off the ponds.
I only saw one goose and two barrows goldeneye today. Our winter water birds ignored the waters at Vernon Bridge for some re-opened , looking like spring space.
