My wife is interested in moving from iPhoto to Aperture, so I downloaded the Aperture Users Manual from the Apple website. There I saw another manual, only about 45 pages, titled "Aperture, An Introduction to Digital Photography Fundamentals". It has very little to do with Aperture - mostly discusses many of the topics that we discuss here on UHH and it's free. Check it out:

Thanks. I'm going to check it out now
Thanks for posting, and very timely. I'll be giving my daughter some basic photography and camera usage training tomorrow. She just bought a new T5i (her first DSLR of her own), and is about to take it on a trip to New Zealand.
Thanks for the link. Seems to pack a lot of information in one place.

Thanks. This is a very well-written, informative, easy-to-understand piece. Even for those who know this stuff, it serves as a nice refresher; and for those who don't, it's an easy-to-understand tutorial. As ecobin said, it is NOT a shill for Aperture. It's just good information.
Thanks for this. I have to say it's very well written and easy to understand. Wish these author(s) would write camera manuals!

Ditto on all the comments. I saved it to my iPad with my Canon manuals. We occasional 'picture takers' often a need fundamental refresh and the guide does a nice job.
Thank you, excellent work. Now I need the same clear type of article for PS elements 10.

Thanks for the link there is some great info.
Has your wife had a chance to compare Aperture with Lightroom. When I made my second Mac purchase. I purchased Aperture, and was given One to One training as a birthday gift. My first session, and they were in 30 minute incraments then. My first session the trainer showed up asked "What do ya want to know" ?
I said I would like to learn more about Aperture. After a few clicks here and there, "He said you need to use Aperture more and come back when you have some more specific questions", Duh I thought that is what the session was about. So I got turned off on Aperture.
I switched to and now use Lightroom, and find it far easier to use than Aperture. It is far easier to find support and how tos for Lightroom. Adobe TV and Adobe websites have great how to vids. Lightroom has a trial version also so you can try before you buy.
If she can you might try to get your wife in an Apple Store and compare Aperture before you ante up for the software
