Just how did Godwin's Law 'allow' him to make that statement? His statement falls into the Godwin category, but that's it.

One thing about Art Grandpa you can't deny; He's not about to let facts, logic, or good sense get in the way of his opinion. I've found that when he cannot support an argument with facts he resorts to bashing. Just because you "feel" something is right, or wrong, doesn't make it so, unless, of course, you're Art Grandpa.

EYES WIDE SHUT
The problem with the anti-gun people is they view the world with their eyes wide shut.
It does not matter to them that the cities with the strictest gun control laws also have the highest crime rates.
It does no good to show them that the cities with the freest gun laws are also the cities with the lowest crime.
You can point out that more people are murdered in gun free zones than in gun friendly areas.
In all these cases the Anti-Gun crowd with eyes wide shut, cherry pick data, excluding true crime and murder rates for only those involving guns.
You can point to Mexico where guns are next to impossible for a law abiding citizen to get but the drug cartels have them in abundance, murdering 10 people a week on average.
You can point out all the atrocities done throughout history, of oppression, enslavement, and genocide due to the inability of the law-abiding people to defend themselves.
None of it makes it past those eyes wide shut.
With eyes wide shut they ignore the evidence, believing that the only thing needed to make bad people good, is to tell them no, no, no, you should not do that. See the nice people, you need to be more like them.
The bad people in response say
Thank you people with eyes wide shut for making it easier for the bad to assault, rob, steal, rape and do whatever to those good people.
Now the cruelest, most ruthless, and sadistic of the bad will impose their well on the good because of the ones with eyes wide shut. Ho you people with eyes wide shut you have done such a good job disarming all the good people, now the bad will beat you, take all your belongings, and work you for free to prosper the wicked.
Of course the people with eyes wide shut will puff up their chests and boast, I am smarter and more intelligent because I have all these degrees that prove I am. Therefore, I know what is best for you and your arguments are thus invalid.
What they dont understand is that intellect is not a measure of the information amassed.
Intellect is the measure of ones ability to learn and REASON.
People with good intellect have a capacity for knowledge and UNDERSTANDING.
The ability to THINK in the abstract and develop profound thoughts and insights into the knowledge they acquire.
Ignoring the real world in favor of a perceived utopia with all the knowledge in the world is not intellect it is ignorance.
So to all who travel through life with your eyes wide shut OPEN THEM to the world and see it in all its glory and gore.
Understand that not everyone is the same and stop trying to punish and hand tie the good people that dont think like you do.
We are a nation of free people.
We should be able to do anything we want, go anywhere we want, when ever we want, with whatever we want and enjoy life to its fullest without fear of crime and aggression, AS LONG AS it does not infringe on the freedom of others.
WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES should be free to have life, liberty and pursue happiness as each individual sees fit.
When it does infringe on anothers right, it is a CRIME and should be punished, for which we have police and the court system to bring justice.
The police are not capable of protecting everyone, everywhere, at all times.
It is up to each individual to supply that protection until help arrives.
Determining the level, type and quality of that protection is again up to the individual and must be balanced with the cost to maintain that protection.
It is said, God created man but it took Colt to make them equal.
Those of high intellect understand that statement, those with a low Intellect and eyes wide shut never will.
The world is full of wondrous things but it is also full of dangers.
Bad people are one of those dangers.
A full grown man in the prime of his life cannot, unarmed, defend his family from a mob of bad people, but an 8 year old girl trained on how to use an AR-15 can.
Good people do not commit crimes, let alone purposely shoot other good people, bad people do.
Good people could own anything from a BB gun to a Nuclear Missile and never intentionally cause harm to other good people.
The same cannot be said of the bad and wicked people.
Restricting good people the tools to defend themselves from bad people is not only wrong it is unconscionable.
Does that mean good people should have a nuke in their house?
Of course not, good people put that in the hands of good government elected by good people to protect them from bad people with the same.
Well, WELL, WELL, huff, huff, huff, what about a Machine Gun, Tank or Jet Fighter then. Nah, Nah, Nah! Say the people with eyes wide shut.
Well yes, as a mater of fact. Good people in our country can own those things, right now, but they are very expensive and not much good in defending your house from some criminal at 2 oclock in the morning.
I can see it now
the owner telling the crook to wait while he fires up his jet EPIC-FAIL.
But reaching for an AR-15, next to the bed with one hand and pulling a loaded magazine with appropriate ammo, out of the drawer with the other and in a split second having it locked, loaded and ready to defend the house and family works pretty well.
Of course a trained gun owner knows not to put his finger on the trigger let alone pull the trigger until 6 criteria are met
1. IDs the target (preferably from cover)
2. Confirm it is a target (dont want to shoot the kids or spouse by mistake)
3. Has target in sights (Not some sound on the other side of the door)
4. Verifies target is hostel, i.e. is an imminent treat and non-compliant. (Is charging, posing a direct threat, is not obeying instructions to halt and continues to advance, and is not already fleeing, i.e. has been told to halt but is running away, be sure to Remember the Hostel part)
5. Is mindful of surroundings (Dont want the bullet going through the kids or neighbors bedroom wall)
6. Double checks the above
7. Fire a warning shoot into the floor or ceiling just in front of the intruder. (If safe and you have the time that is. You know safe, that kids and neighbor thing again. If not safe the warning shoot could be at intruders arm or leg.) otherwise
8. Aim mid chest to neck put finger on the trigger and squeeze. (Of course you can also aim to wound if youre not willing to take a life in defense of your own and families. This is not a light decision and needs to be made before deciding to set up a firearm for immediate home defense. Hesitating in the moment is not an option.)
Here is another thing good gun people do.
They dont pull a gun on someone unless
1. There is a clear and present danger of death or extreme bodily harm.
2. Lesser force would be ineffective
3. They are ready and willing to shoot.
A good gun person does not pull a gun on someone otherwise.
Bad people go straight to number 3 with no regard to 1 & 2.
Well Im sure this has just been speaking to the choir but even if one person with eyes wide shut is challenged enough to make their eyes wide open it is a good thing.
Thanks for reading. :-)
Wow! I don't know where you've been until now, Big E88, but I'm sure glad you're here! I think dogman has the best idea about this idiot art gramps.......ignore the creep! He's obviously crazy, and if you try to argue with a crazy person, other people may think you're crazy too.
BTW, Art Gramps.....yeah, it's "par" for this forum....it's a terrible place.....you probably won't be "comfortable "here".....(or any place else with an attitude like you have! ) So maybe you oughta just "move on" and find a forum for fruitcakes where you'll "fit in" better and you'll be happier! And just remamber....we'll really miss you! (about like a dose of clapp )

Thanks Gitzo.
Your are correct that you can't argue with crazy people.
Ditto that for emotional arguments, and fanatics.
While I don't always succeed, I try never to argue but do enjoy debating issues with informed people and people with different view points as long as they stay focused on topic and can avoid hostilities and emotional arguments as much as possible.
I found this sight because I like photography and am starting a college class on Digital-Photography and want to couple others hard learned lessons and experiences with what I will be learning in class. This thread touched one of my hot buttons and had to put in my two cents, well maybe a buck-fifty.
Again Thanks for the kind remarks.
I could go broke buying enough troll spray for all of the fruit cakes around here!

Thank a Liberal for Americas Gun Ownership
Michael Schaus | Jan 06, 2014
Lets face it. Gun control is good business. Not only for the Bloomberg sycophants who prey off of the fearful (unarmed) masses, but for dealers, manufacturers, and purveyors of firearm accessories. And while Sturm Ruger & Co.s stock price has shot up (see
guns are an investment, not an obsession) America has actually become safer. So, as it turns out, increased gun ownership is both an economic and security boost to the average American. (By the way: This article is dedicated to Samuel Colt.)
A mere nine years ago before the age of ObamaBloombergHickenlooper Inc. there were nearly 9 million background checks performed for firearm purchases. Just the threat of Obama becoming President ballooned that number to 12.7 million by 2008. And by December there were over 19 million background checks conducted in 2013. (That number is bound to go up as last minute .45 caliber Christmas presents are calculated by our friendly folks at the FBI.)
While these numbers helped to build up the profits of the companies that helped win the west (Sturm Ruger & Co., Smith and Wesson, Colt, etc.) it has done little to feed into the anti-gunners prediction of mayhem and murder. In the first three quarters of 2013 Sturm Ruger & Co. posted a 66 percent surge in profits. Smith and Wesson (gotta love Dirty Harry) saw profits jump 70 percent in the same time period. Contrary to the incredulous outrage of liberals, these profits were not made off the massacre of Sandy Hook, or the mass-shootings in Aurora, Colorado
They were made off the public calls for confiscation, registration and regulation. (It turns out, America still loves her freedom. Maybe we should replace Lady Libertys torch with an all-American M1911A?)
This massive proliferation of arms in the great United States of America (excluding liberal havens such as New York, Chicago, and LA) has not, however, resulted in mass chaos. Many liberal pundits and pro-gun-control enthusiasts insisted that a massive arming of American citizens would result in an increasingly hostile work environment for law enforcement, and an increasingly violent populace.
Well
The facts are in
(Brace yourself Bloomy.)
According to the Associated Press, the number of police officers killed in the line of duty by firearms is at its lowest level since 1887. Despite all of the semi-auto rifles (AKA: assault weapons Gasp!), high-capacity magazines, pump action shotguns, military style stocks, and hollowed point bullets (not to mention couple dozen million more people) we managed to kill fewer cops than when the cap and ball revolver ruled the day.
The strange statistic is imperative to understanding the failure of gun control, and the power of an armed populace. After all, only criminals kill cops. Law-abiding US citizens generally get our kicks at the range, or by gunning down a guy that breaks into our home
Police officers are really not on the acceptable list of targets for normal-folk. Which is why the statistic is so impressive.
In a time when a record number of Americans are clamoring to get their paws on firearms before our benevolent* government (*sarcasm font imagined here) bans them, our nation is proving to be marginally safer. As a numbers guy, this would almost prove to me that guns are not the problem in America.
And so, it turns out that the leftist attempts at gun control has proven to be a boost for business, safety, and stock prices
And to think: I always argue that liberalism is bad for business. I guess I should be thanking Americas liberals for creating so many new gun owners. Without them, my stocks would be down, my gun cabinet would be sparse, and my police would be facing a far more dangerous job description. So, on behalf of myself, fellow stock holders, gun owners, and police officers: Thanks!
Oh, and just to prove Im not alone in my thinking, Detroit Police Chief James Craig had this to say about increased concealed carry in Michigan:
Theres a number of CPL [concealed pistol license] holders running around the city of Detroit. I think it acts as a deterrent. Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction.
So, thank you (again) Libs
Without your ridiculous arguments, I dont know what I would do with myself.
Gitzo again;
In spite of all of the statistics, all of the evidence, and even in spite of the opinion of Detroit's Chief of Police........the Libs STILL don't want law-abiding citizens carrying guns, or EVEN owning them.
Thank a Liberal for Americas Gun Ownership br br... (
