Society seems to 'protect' children by stopping them doing...
even childish acts are questioned, frowned upon, or banned.

My parents could leave school at 13 years old and be treated as an adult - I left school at 16 and was expected to work alongside adults (if not paid at the same rate I did the same work)

now we do not pay young people the same rate till they are 25 in the UK - they can vote at 18, die for their country at 19, enter a gay relationship or get married at 18 (16 with parental permission) but are still discriminated in the workplace.

In the media we have people under the age of 30 cited as being 'children' or 'young adults'. Do you have to be drawing a pension to be treated as an adult or even like one?

I say if a child wants to learn from UHH there should be no reason why they can't. If WE do not give them respect when they wish to learn and better their interests, Then its time we closed our windows and barricaded our doors because we will have totally closed our minds to the welfare of children.

It is the children of yesterday that will look after us tomorrow....think on how you would like to be treated by them....!

I'll post it again for those who wonder since it was deleted along with the other thread.
"ALL PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 ARE DENIED ACCESS TO THIS WEBSITE. IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE, IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR YOU TO VISIT, READ, OR INTERACT WITH THIS WEBSITE OR ITS CONTENTS IN ANY MANNER. THIS WEBSITE SPECIFICALLY DENIES ACCESS TO ANY INDIVIDUAL THAT IS COVERED BY THE CHILD ONLINE PRIVACY ACT (COPA) OF 1998."

Not my capitalization. That's a copy and paste from Terms of Use here. It's at the bottom of the page here, and it's what all members agreed to when becoming a member.

This time I will comment.

First YoungClicker revealed his age between his profile and another post. "Occupation: Junior High", and "I'm almost 13."

I don't personally care if Clicker is exposed to naked or mature content. But the Guvment and Admin care that there are regulations pertaining to accessibility to children. Anyone under 13 cannot post (I should say is not supposed to post) on Craigslist or Facebook or even NeoPets (a gaming site with fuzzy animals and NO adult content.

Admin here cites the COPA Act of 1998. That has been struck down by the Supreme Court, but the COPPA is still in effect. There are rules about collecting personal data from children, even an email address or a zip code. The intent is to protect minors from predation and usary.

So I suggest that you, ExTech2, pull whatever you have up YOUR a$$ out and see the real world. Then hop on down to your closest junior high and volunteer to teach photography to the kids.

Better yet, just run a Craigslist ad saying you want to teach 12-13 year olds how to use a camera and count the seconds until the county sheriff comes knocking on your door.

One more bit. There is NOTHING that can be done to prevent ANYONE from browsing here. I think that's the way it should be and yes, many talented young people have the ability to make good photos. As soon as they sign up for membership, Admin has taken on the obligation to comply with the rules.

Did people READ the Terms of Service the agreed to before they click the "I agree" button when they signed up for this site?

it's against the forum's rules, that's it.. as simple as that, the owners of this site have decided that they do NOT want anyone under the age of 18 being a member and posting here.

A few days ago a young man posted in this forum in the photo gallery section. Someone (odd jobber) jumped all over him with both feet and which, to me, indicated that he probably had a big bunch of undies stuffed up tight into his a$$. The young man posted erroneously and has since been removed from UHH. If that is the rule, fine. But, can we fix this problem? Perhaps have a section for youngsters under 18 yrs of age. I know there are others out there who would really enjoy the exchange of information and the comradery that we adults (most of us, anyway) enjoy. Please think about it!!

The ridiculous paradox here is that ADMIN has designated this a "Family" site, yet he forbids members under the age of 18. Not my rules, its the site rules. My daughter is 11 and is a member, but she has never revealed her age, I am betting the member in question revealed his age and was banned by ADMIN because of it.

Actually, I do exactly that in the summer months, I even provide cameras if they don't have one. Two of my students this past summer were children of law enforcement and both their dads brought them out and picked them back up each week.

Thank you for your post. I, too, have worked with many youths over the years such as church youth groups and was a Boy Scoutmaster for several years when I was young enough to keep up with them. My problem kids were few, almost none. Here some 30 years later those "kids" still come up to me and thank me for the time that I spent with them. But even better, the parents of those youngsters still acknowledge for the good clean fun and life skills that I made available.

You can't blame admin for complying with the law. You may question whether or not the law is correct, but it is the law.
