If you are not a Nikon purest, then there is a Chinese knock-off for the Nikon SB900. At $160.00 it is affordable and in my use is completely compatible to Nikon cameras.

I own a nikon d7100 with a 18-300mm lens. I've interested in buying a flash for general use. I have looked at the Nikon SB 700 and SB 910. According to Nikon USA the 700 has a lens coverage of 14-120mm (DX-format) while the 910 has a lens coverage of 12-200mm (DX-format, Automatic mode). Can someone explain what that means and will either or both work well with my camera and lens combination?
I am a new member and have been enjoying reading UHH. The questions and comments I have reviewed have been very informative and helpful. Thank you

If you don't mind the weight get the 910. You never regret buying the top of the line.

I have had good luck with the ProMaster FL1. Reverse engineered , but sure works for me. Cheaper too.

I shoot with D-7000; just recently bought a SB-700.
It has all the flash/capabilities you will need with either a 7000, or 7001 for "general use." (multiple-remotes, etc - have fun...) My opinion - unless you're a "make-your-living Pro" - ... get the 700. $325 well spent.

I have both the SB700 and the SB910 and use them on my D200 and D7100. I find that I have a better range or distance with the 910 and usually a slightly brighter picture when using the SB910. Both Speedlights work well in the Master or Remote modes. If you can afford the SB910 it is well worth the extra $200.
