So this is a photo that's been giving me a bit of frustration for a while. It's not of much importance to me, but it's an interesting PP challenge.
I took this after a friend had shot a few pictures and I didn't realize he had set my camera to shutter priority at 1/3200, so I ended up exposing at ISO 2000, getting a lot of noise, and faded colors. (he also set the picture style to my Technicolor Cinestyle preset, which I reserve for tweaking on video shoots, so colors are faded at all ISOs.) I recently tried fixing it up in GIMP (That's all my budget can take, no Lightroom here), and I just can't quite make them pop. Any suggestions? or did the high shutter speed/ISO (and Cinestyle - in case you're wondering, never use Cinestyle for stills) just mess it up too much?

The girls are slightly out of focus so a little sharpening helped some.
Boost contrast, sharpen selectively, boost color saturation slightly

I tried to make it pop some more, hope you enjoy it
Download it to see it better
People aren't popping
You'll get more help than you need when "your people" are good looking....ain't that so ricardolegraham!??
Couldn't resist.... I also use Gimp 2. Auto - Color enhance - Tone Curve to balance the histogram & then added contrast - finished with Filters-Enhance-Unsharpen mask to bring up the detail....

It's green. Better calibrate your monitor!
Not really sure what you are after but this one has deeper shadows than most of the others and less of an airbrush look on the skin.
CS5 & Nik Viveza
Been watching this one for a few days. Lots of tries, all of them improvements, but on my calibrated monitor most (not all) of them look like the girls have blue skin!
Might there be something wrong with my monitor calibration procedure?
Hello ronwande...same here (watching)...probably not (your monitor)... the majority of the posted pics created the asked for "pop" by accentuating/improving color, shadows and or sharpness. This in turn also accentuated some of the flaws of the pic (opinion) ... blemishes, wrinkles, shadows and the probable cause of what caught your eye, tonal value. I personally enjoy this section but wish more people would explain their work flow and others would respond with constructive suggestions...I notice that the original poster has not responded as to what he thinks about the majority of attempted touch ups...to find the facial tonal values in photoshop click ...windows >>>>> info (F8) :{)

Hope you don't mind but I think that it can be fixed, a couple of minutes in photoshop and I got this, I am sure that there are others on this site much more talented in PP than am I.

This was done in Aperture 3 with sharpening by NIK. The sharpening made little difference as the image is so soft to start with. The main lesson here is to check your settings before shooting, not after.

Well - who has been looking at this on a seriously (not by eyeball) calibrated, large monitor?

Must be. I only see one in which the girls are green like frogs. The rest all are variations on pretty realistic although a few are a bit too red, over-sharpened, or over-contrasty. None are blue on my monitor...
