can anyone recommend a gook how to guide for LR 5, there are alot of books to choose from.
Look at Juliet Kost's blog, and Matt Kloskowski's tips. Not only is it educational, but there may be suggestions for good books.
This is a 75 page free guide from the Lightroom queen, I have her Lightroom 4 book it's a big book that covers every slider and menu option. It's a really good reference to have.
This free quick start guide is a good place to start

Happy new year

I got Scott Kelby's book at the same time I got Lightroom. He made it easy to learn,as he does with most any area of photography knowledge.

I will highly recommend Adobe Lightroom's Classroom in a Book. It will intuitively step you through setting up and using Lightroom, explaining the reasons for doing things. Very, very good. Available on Amazon, but probably other places, as well.

I am always a little different. Scott Kelby's writing style annoys me and Martin Evening puts me to sleep. They have great information, I just don't enjoy reading them.
My preference for a comprehensive guide is Piet Van Den Eynde's Lightroom 5 Unmasked, electronic version $20 from Craft & Vision (C&V makes tons of other great photographic resources).
http://craftandvision.com. Because I do lots of landscape photography, I really like Michael Frye's book Landscapes in Lightroom 5 which for $15
http://www.michaelfrye.com/landscape-photography-blog/landscapes-in-lightroom-5/I like the Lightroom Queen resources that someone else recommended too.
And don't overlook all the free video tutorials on both youtube and Adobe's website.

I like the classroom in a book series. They have it for lightroom or Photo Shop. It is published, I believe, by Adobe. Check Amazon. Nice thing about this series is that it comes with a CD full of images. You download them and then manipulate them on your computer as per instructions to look like what is in the book. Very informative.
go to utube and look up serge ramelli,,, he has a number of great lessons using lightroom5
Anthony Morganti on Youtube - a comprehensive series of videos, free and well organized.
http://www.youtube.com/user/AnthonyMorgantiRamelli teaches his personal style, his videos are fine for LR users with some experience, not as a beginners course.
