i guess I'm the oddball here..i tend to like my photos on a semi-glossy paper..and lean toward matte in most cases if there is only a cut and dry choice of either matte or glossy
seems it all depends on the photo itself
some look better glossy. some better with matte..like a portrait for instance...
Well if I had my druthers , matte dried glossy paper, but that is from wet darkroom days, now I just use mostly glossy as that what I can get for few $, and matte inkjet paper is too matte,
Bob.
Semi gloss for most of my work.... Portraits for sure....and some landscapes.
Neither. It is pearl, lustre, or semi-gloss for me. No glare, not as easily scratched as gloss and ink doesn't spread like for matte. Degree of gloss however depends on the picture.
Matte is my preference, but will use semi-gloss if I feel the photo will present better. That's rare though.
Depends. I've printed in all three.

For portraits, never glossy. Matte, canvas, etc. is my choice. For 'snapshots', glossy.
I will almost always choose matte or semi-gloss.

with film photography the general guiding principal has been glossy will provide better definition in the grey and black areas.
whereas matte finishes block up a little bit. now that can be somewhat ameliorated in the darkroom via burning and dodging.
so, anyway, hope this is of some assistance to you.
Well, this settled things, didn't it? :-)

Glossy if I used a Canon, Matte if I used a Leica, Semi glossy if I use a real camera. Sorry
You sometimes use a Hasselblad? Congratulations!
It all depends on what you are shooting. I always use semi-gloss, or Lustre paper. Sometimes when you have a very sharp photo, you can really make it snap by using a "High Gloss" paper.
