I've lived here in Tucson since 1967 and am still amazed at how such an ugly plant can produce such a beautiful blossom. This was taken in my front yard early in the morning ( the blossom will be withered and gone by noon). I waited until the sun backlit the blossom for a more saturated effect.

Absolutely beautiful! The colors are so rich. Wonderful decision to wait for the correct lighting.

I didn't get to post one yesterday (computer wouldn't cooperate) spent over 2 hours on the phone getting assistance!! So, I hope you don't mind if I post my b&w picture today. It was taken in Savannah, GA about 5 years ago (I accidentally bought b&w film) but I got some good shots that day & I like the b&w. I scanned one onto the computer and want to share it. The other one is Cheyenne (my granddaughter/she's in FFA) showing her calf at the fair this year.

I posted about 10 of these similar shots, but Admin moved them to: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-21269-1.html

If anyone gets a chance. please look at them and give me some C&C. I really wanted to find out if any of them are worth saving.

Meanwhile, here's another one from the same series.

. Maybe this last one has a tad more contrast than necessary (IMO)

I was raised in the marshes and cat tails can make great shots. Try hiding the sun behind them also play with shutter speeds, sport setting, clicking three times when windy. Winter shots are terrific.

Thank you. I was just lucky that he/she stayed in one spot long enough for me to get focused and take a few shots. Usually these birds don't stay in one place very long.

Oh, it was windy all right.
That picture I ran through ReDynamix in PSE 10. I probably did overdo it.
I was shooting with the sun above and behind the cat tails, but I probably should have crouched down some more. It was pretty cold, so I wasn't anxious to put knee to ground.
The glow that came off them was what made me stop in the first place. I pass sections of these cat tails all the time and I've tried several times to get them the way I wanted. This was the best day so far.
If you get a chance to look at the others and C&C them it would be much appreciated.

I've been working on a science research paper all day with my son. So I have not had the time to step out side the house and take any pictures. Sooooo, I just took another picture of my "baby" she looked so cute in front of my Mardi Gras arrangment. She's ready to catch some beads and sit on her throne. Maybe even drink a beer.

What a cutie! What's her name?
