Can anyone please tell me if the Yongnuo YN-560II works with
the SX 50 HS, and if not What Speedlites are compatible with this model. Thanks in advance.
It will "work" but will be a manual flash, no TTL function.
There are more expensive models that are made specific for either Nikon or Canon and if you get those Canon models, the flash should communicate with the camera for the TTL automation.
Target stores have a Targus flash for Canon at $59 and Walmart has a Sunpak 3000 for Canon at $59 that will also communicate with the SX50 for TTL automation.
Thanks for the Info. You have been a help

This flash will not work on the camera, only off camera.Get a dedicated flash that will work on the camera. All the canon speedlites work I use a 270EX11
I use the 430 EX ll on dslr. Great flash reasonably priced. Picked one up on craigslist a few years ago for $200. Yes, there are third -party flashes that are dedicated to your brand of camera. They are advertised as dedicated. If not, they will be manual which, buy the way, is not a bad way to go. If you decide to go manual, look for flashes with a large choice of incremental steps. Suggest something like 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, full power or as close as you can get. Many of he lower priced flashes have half of the above increments. Good hunting.

NOT correct. ALL manual flashes WILL work on-camera, just won't have the eTTL functions available and will have to be set manually but the camera will trigger the flash just fine.

You are wrong ,I have this flash .The contact point does not match the camera's contact point .The flash works on other brand cameras

ALL manual flashes have a "standard" position for the 'pin' that matches the primary (largest) contact point on the SX40/SX50 cameras and should have no problem being triggered, just no TTL function.

Do you have this flash and this camera ,well I do and they do not match. The contact point on the camera is off center, the flash is centered

I have both the SX40 & SX50 and that primary contact is centered, in the exact same position as on my old Minolta film SLR. I have also used a Manual Flash (not Yongnuo) and it worked fine other than NO TTL function.

Hi Dace,
I realize this is not a current thread but is this the one you mean?
