R.I.P. - U.S.A.
You are kidding, right? Did you just drop in from outer space? Virtually every print, radio, web and TV media is reporting this story and it is a FACT. On Tuesday, the Republicans introduced an amendment to the budget bill to rectify this very bad problem (retired veterans losing 1% of their pension, including disabled veterans) but the democrats defeated this amendment. I imagine most military retirees will thank the dems next November.
Also, to your comment without compromise and there would be no America. That is silly. If you are able to think that through, which is questionable. What you should have said is had our founding fathers compromised with the Brits then there would be NO United States of America.

I take it you would rather have seen another shut down?
What I would have rather seen is for the Democrats to depart from their always followed form of "Compromise"...which means that the Dems get everything that they want and the gutless Republicans cave in completely...getting nothing.
On the last shutdown it was the Democrats refusing to "negotiate" (or even discuss) terms with the Republicans and eventually causing the shutdown, then immediately raising the hue and cry (thru their puppet-media) that those "criminal Republicans" have shut down the country, and Obama picking and choosing which items would be "sequestered" that would punish the Taxpayers the most.
Shame! The voters may be fooled, but God isn't.

Retired veterans between the ages of 40 and 62 will get 1% less in their cost of living adjustment. Not all veterans. The disabled vets will get their full increases, as they should, when congress returns from yet another recess.
As far as founding fathers and compromise, you need to brush up on your history. I wasn't talking about the war. I was talking about the founding fathers and their compromises between each other that led to the birth of this country.

It's a good thing the Founding Fathers believed in compromise or there would be no America.
You are absolutely right! If they had not compromised back then, we would not have this once-great nation that we have today. Compromise is great!
Er, uh, if you would be so kind as to point out some of them outstanding compromises that these brilliant statesmen performed (just 'cause my old infirm memory fails me) I'd sure appreciate it. It's heck to get old and have your memory fail ya. 'Preciate it.

Today, Dec. 30, 2013, the results of a Gallup Poll showed that the two most admired U.S. citizens were:
1. Barack Obama
2. Hillary Clinton
If this is, indeed, a true and valid Poll result, then it is too late for prayer to save this once-great nation.
Lord help us.
