Thanksgiving day, I usually try to get a photo of our entire family because we are all together. I recruited a non-family member to take the photo with my SX50HS. The camera wouldn't work. I thought it was the battery, so i switched batteries. Still wouldn't work. My family turns into two year-olds (They range in age from 4-77) when I want a photo and they make fun of me. We took the photo with another camera. When I got home, I determined the camera was just not working. Called Canon. Learned it was still under warranty. After a frantic search online for the invoice that had to be included, I packed the camera up according to their directions and papers they had sent me online with a repair number. Sent it UPS on 11/30. It arrived at Canon repair 12/10. On 12/11, I got a e-mail that they didn't have parts to repair it and would send me a new or refurbished SX50HS and there would be no charge. Got the replacement 12/14 and everything is looking good. By the way, the warranty would have expired 12/29. Usually everything breaks down a day after the warranty expires. Haven't taken any photos yet, but I am impressed with Canon's telephone workers and their quick replies online. Maybe that is why I have used so many Canon products. I currently have 5 Canon cameras and two printers.

You haven't tried out the replacement camera yet? That's the very first thing I would have done to ensure its working properly. Did you compare serial numbers to make sure they didn't send you back your original camera in error? That's been known to happen. They are only human.

They gave me a new serial number. I have it all set up and ready to go. Some of us just have too many things on our plate to do things we would like to immediately. I want to put it through a number of tests and that takes time I don't have right now.
I have used Canons foreverÂ…I give them a 4.5 stars out of 5!

I've always had excellent service via Canon's phone folks... very responsive and easy to work with. This just confirms my conviction that I've chosen the right products as well.
I'm glad everything worked out for you. Merry Christmas!

I have a Canon 5D MKII that I bought new and a 7D that I bought refurbished at a substantial savings versus new. In hind sight I wish I would have bought the 5D MKII refurbished as well. Canon does an EXCELLENT job when they refurbish. In many ways they're better cameras because they're rebuilt from the ground up and get all the QC checks before they go out the door. The new production units are only checked at random.
