I am also confused..... you said upgrade... then you said Nikon. Of course, I would have been just as confused if you'd said Canon.

Ima happy Olympus shooter, and my new E-PL5 for $499 kit price at the Olympus site, allows me to use Olympus' fantastic class, plus all the new primes and the whole stable of lenses from Panasonic.

Of course there is a bit of a disappointment with Olympus. If you are just a GAS ridden Gear Head, it's hard to spend as much money, and as fast with Olympus than with the other Manufacturer's.

Saving my sheckels for the EM-1. Won't have to change one other accessory or lens in my bag, and will still have access to all those same adaptors for legacy lenses including Leica, Nikon and Canon lenses.

Don't know why I would though with Oly/Panasonics great lens inventory of quality glass... kit, HG and SHG )High grade and Super High Grade.

I just went to a specialized photography store, and they don't have anything for my camera. No even a flash!
.They said they can get me anything I need within a week or so

Hi everybody,
after all the great help I got with my last couple of questions, here I got another one:

Currently, I have a Olympus E510 with two kit lenses. 10 megapixels, self-cleaning sensor, live view screen, four third body, image stabilization in the body, no the lenses, with about 11000 shots in the body. No video capture capabilities. two batteries, ultraviolet and circularized polarized lenses.

My questions is: I work in retail, and I can upgrade to a Nikon D3100 with two lenses, (not sure if they are VR lenses) with HD video capture for a little shy of $500.00

I think in my area, I can get about $300 for my Olympus, unfortunately, I can't come up with more noney for a better upgrade right now.

It's the Nikon worth the upgrade? or should I wait, and get me a 7000 series or something else when I can afford it?

I been studying and practicing a lot, and I think soon I will invest in more lenses, like one with better aperture. and other accessories. But maybe no until end of next year.

Help please guys!

In my opinion, moving from your Olympus to a D3100 would be more of a side step than an upgrade. I'd wait until you can step up much higher - at least to a D5200 and that makes the upgrade worth the effort and expense. Keep in mind that kit lenses are never the company's highest quality lenses, no matter what company.

I might even add that you could look at the new Panasonic G6 which is a high tech wi-fi micro-4/3 that can be fully operated (and the live pix can be viewed) by an Android tablet or Apple iPad, if you don't mind staying at 16MB. Your Olympus lenses would also be usable on it with a 4/3 to micro-4/3 adapter. You'll have to save for a while to accomplish that one though.

My motto has always been that if you personally can't see a difference between your current camera and a new one, you shouldn't be upgrading yet. When you know your camera is holding you back then consider upgrading.

Thank you marcomarks.
I think I still got a lot to go before I can honestly say that I "need" another camera.

Today, at my sons christmas recital I saw a bunch of soccer moms happy trigging their expensive cameras without even checking their pictures.

I think you should save your money and get the E-M1 when you're ready. You'll be able to keep your favorite lenses.

Yes, it would save us a lot of money, but usually, we always want (I meant "need") the ultimate toys. Isn't always like that?:-)

If you're going to stay with Olympus, you'll eventually end up with an OMD EM1. It is a very innovative, well-designed and extraordinarily capable camera, albeit not cheap. It'll give you images that are beautiful, for sure. Save up for that and the 12-40 f2.8PRO lens and it'll change your life.

I just wish Olympus and Panasonic would up their 4/3 sensors to 20 or 24MP. I use 3:2 ratio and part of the native 16MP is lost when doing so. I end up with photos that are cropped to 14.2MP.
