SX50.

I was driving to an ocean shoot at Broome's Head the other day when I stopped to admire these Brahmans from the roadside. I know the owner of the stud & he tells me that old Ferdi is a real sook & his grand kids sometimes sit on him. Brahmans aren't the prettiest breed around, but I love their placid nature.

There are plenty of bull riders who would disagree with the "placid" descriptor!

Great photos...esp. the first.

Brahmans are known for their gentle nature. I was connected with rodeo bulls for some years, so have a little experience with them. The bulls are trained/forced to buck. They know that when the chute door is opened, they have to perform. I have seen good buckers that were ridden around the paddock by kids when not 'working'. There are some nasty ones too, of course, but they are a minority.

Aw, so old Ferdi is really a pussy cat. He does look rather sweet and docile. These are interesting and pretty, Earl. Glad you posted these. I never knew anything about Brahmans.

Excellent set DOOK, I remember seeing them just wandering around the villages and small towns up around Cookstown when we were there on holiday. They always seemed docile then.

When you watch a bull ride pay special attention to the rope around the hind quarters. It is there as a prod to make the bulls mad and to make them buck. When the gate is opened and the bull turns out there is a wrangler that pulls that rope tight and it pinches nerves in the bull making him kick trying to rid himself of the rope.
