In a world where if it can go wrong it will, I am getting back into photography, I don't know diddly as I have said before. My g/f walks up to me and says guess what my aunt is getting married. I felt that sinking feeling of despair. Then I heard it......"Honey can you take some pictures?" hmmmm what to do. I took the smart way out. yes I will take some pictures but I will not be the wedding photographer. Have her talk to me and I can explain to her that just because I equipment it doesnt mean I can shoot wedding. But you just have to see that coming don't you. lmbo
In a world where if it can go wrong it will, I am ... (show quote)

I agreed to shoot a wedding for a young lady I worked with, Plus I drove them both 140 miles to catch a flight for their honeymoon.

When all was said and done, they thanked me for the trip to catch the honeymoon flight, with only a slight complaint that the back seat in my BMW Coupe was a bit cramped.

The pictures.. not so much thank you there.

Fracking Weddings... What a PITA!... why do people want memory's of these events? Who gets the pics when the divorce takes place? Do they split the pics and then spend a weekend each cutting the other persons faces out of the pictures?

:XD:

You have some nice images on your website. We shoot much the same style. Smile

thanks, I read this once and thought you meant the other person. Hummm, someone that shoots like me. We can start a commune.

I love doing events, Sweet 16, weddings, etc. I love to shoot people. Buildings and unmovable objects are just boring. I had a good side business up in NYC. Now in Tampa I am trying to get a foothold. Very hard, but I keep trying. Again, thanks for the nice comment.

If you have a high end camera, put it on automatic, learn how to focus, and photograph everything costing more than $20. Piece of cake. Get a basic wedding shot list, be prepared for the kiss, cutting the cake, garter and bouquet throw, the exit, and the vehicle exit and you have it. High end idiot proof cameras are putting wedding photographers out of business every day. Just shoot plenty of images to get some keepers.

If you have a high end camera then go into the menu settings and remove the option for even using automatic.

And where would one find that?
I can't find it on ANY of the Nikon cameras I have.
It's always an available choice, directly from the control switches.

Have her sign a contract that says you were "FORCED" into taking the pictures and there is "NOTHING GUARANTEED" as far as the results!!

"Honey, your aunt is going to look back on this day as one of the most important in her life. She will go back time and again to view the wedding photos. She will want to share them with her friends for years into the future.

"I don't want her hating me for years into the future. I am Not Qualified to take wedding photos. I'll take some pictures at the wedding for your benefit, but your aunt deserves significantly better for her photos of her wedding."

I posted a little bit with pictures earlier..... But as a final note. it went well, I loved it. Got a nice card thanking me. final tally was just over 1000 shots taken, of that wound up with about 80 that passed my eye. Again thank goodness for photoshop. Put together a movie for her, (i am more of a video editor than photographer). Plus printed a few for her. Over all I would recommend that if anyone gets in this position go for it. I practiced hours the week before and it paid off. Now I am a wedding photographer......if I just knew how to use my camera. lol ok that was a joke.

What a great plan, trying to shut down more small business owners, and replacing their product with something inferior.

That comment about removing auto options was sort of tongue in cheek. The problem with shooting automatic is you don't always get the results you want.

In the canon menu it is under Exposure: select useable shooting modes. It will probably be something similar in the nikon menu.

Here is a general rule I guess:
AV: use so you can determine how much of the background you want in/out of focus
S: use when you must have a fast shutter, like sports, moving cars, etc
M: use when you are using studio flash or off camera flash, (no auto mode will get it right) or when you must have full control over shutter, iso and aperture
P: Use for when you need to quickly just 'point and shoot' and don't have time to mess with any of the settings.

I shoot manual most of the time. an exception is at a football game on a cloudy day that puts part of the field in shadows and the other part in bright sunlight. Then I set it to av so I can keep my 2.8 aperture
