Problems with Norton antivirus?

I got a pop-up on my computer today telling me my Norton antivirus program has expired and to call 1-888-BEST BUY where I was told that they were having problems with Norton and that I would have to delete their program and replace it with a program called Webroot that would be active until 2-1-14. Thinking it may be a scam, I said no thanks and hung up. I then called my local Best Buy and one of the Geeks confirmed that they have been having problems with Norton and that the recommendation was not a scam.

Has anyone else here had that same experience or heard about Norton "problems"?

how long you had it? depends if you had a 1 or 2 year subscription. most are 1 yr.

had norton twice seemed like it slugged puter down. i went to kerpernsky. ...

I've had it several years, purchased the Norton program at the same time I purchased the computer at Best Buy. The Norton program renewed annually and I never had any problems with it to the best of my knowledge, nor did it appear to slow the computer. The issue is not that my subscription lapsed, but that Best Buy is having "problems" with Norton and are making people replace it temporarily with a different program. I am thinking about going to Kapersky instead but don't really know much about it except that it is free (I think).

Never liked Norton, had it years ago and finally got rid of it.
First of, it was way too expensive, secondly it slowed down my computer something terrible and screwed up numerous things on the computer and I was having all sorts of problems, once I got rid of it, it felt like working on a new computer, everything was working just fine (no glitches of any kind) and it worked fast again. So, I have been "Norton free" for several years and still a happy camper, so I don't have to worry about this. But thank you for letting folks know and hopefully everything turns out fine at the end for you!

After a little surfing, found that (1) Kapersky is not free, and (2) Webroot is real. Actually, Kapersky is about the same price as Norton. For now, I plan to go back to Best Buy and do what they recommend, then look at alternatives before 2-1-14.

My computer came with Norton, I hated it becasuse it was never as secure as it claimed.. I switched to Mcafee and never have had a virus problem....(as long as you keep it on automatic update, they wll catch it before it hit your computer). :thumbup: :thumbup:

i heard 3 salesmen talkin about the 2 customers were havin issues about it, they all said the norton problem goin to piss bunch people off.

this pretty well compares all portions of each anti virus out there, individually side by side.

Why not call Norton... Is Best Buy pushing Webroot? I have Norton but not from Best Buy. No problems with my Machine nor with Norton.

I have Norton Internet Security guarding three of my computers and haven't noticed anything unusual. At one time, Norton did slow the computer down, but newer versions don't.

I live in Michigan, and my laptop started running slow yesterday. Noticed Norton was calling for a security update so I tried but download was taking forever. I then uninstalled Norton and reinstalled from Infinity(Comcast). Software in Michigan comes free with internet & cable service. Working OK now.
