D-80 shutter release problems

Hello All

When I depress the shutter release to take a photo I hear what sounds like the shutter actuating,
but no photo is taken . The battery has a full charge, SD card is empty (checked on another camera),
lens is installed and locked (tried several lens, both Sigma and Nikon), lens cover is off.
Anyone with any ideas??? Went through several resets, still no luck…

Thanks

1. Try and use your camera in live view mode.
2. Do you get file numbers on your storage disk?
3. Remove your lens and activate your shutter and mirror...make sure they both move.

Bret thanks for the fast come back !!!!

No live mode on the D80

Nothing goes to the SD card

It appears that the lens works for a couple of times then hangs up in the mirror up position

Also I'm getting an 'err' on my control panel

Walt....sounds like your shutter curtain is toasted...maybe time for a service call.
Try one more thing....lock the mirror up for cleaning...you most likely won't even see the sensor.

Sadly, I had a friend with the same problem a couple of years ago and the only feasible fix was a D7000 purchase. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my D80. Your shutter mechanism is worn out or broken, Rick on here fixed my D80... his contact information is:

good luck, unfortunately Nikon will not repair your camera, but he should be able to.

Nikon D80 does not have live view mode. I own one, but have never had the problem you describe.
