My brother and I were at a show this weekend selling out photos. We had several in frames hanging in our display
when a well to do woman and her mother walk up to look and the woman takes out her cell phone and takes shots of three photos! When we asked her if we could help she says Oh I just like the frames I think they are lovely....
Then she walks away without the decency to even ask for out business card or our names! the shots were full pic and frame. Do any of you think this is theft or just an attempt
to steal my ideas on my frames so she can have some one else make the frames for her? Personally I did not like what she did. Am I wrong or should I have confronted her about it? Thanks for your thoughts

I think it could only do more good than harm.
Something a Lady knew she could never afford in a million years but loved it so much she wanted the photo to remind her how wonderful it was. "No Harm"

She knew where she was, if she wants they will find you again, "Good".
It was "A Sell Out" in your own words I believe.
Your work sounds great. :-P
Photo Theft? no. sorry, but like all the photographers said nothing she can really do with it no laws broken.
Wonderful advice on the future. I love everything Spooktographer Jim said. And the other Photographers advice on the future.
I invasion the roped lined display very elegant backdrop for the pieces just out of arms reach. A stringed business card taped from the back draped over the front of the piece.
It will not stay in position (murphy's law) so it will be your business card one side the price on the other.
If someone ask you to move it or breach the buffer zone with a camera.
Intervene graciously, hold at a slight angle, pose with it . If they don't even snap the picture you just saved it's destiny.:-)

The subject matter, Quality and legitimacy can sometimes dictate the available sale of a cell phone picture at face value.
She could be selling your photo to a frame maker or other real photographers/painters without Idea's.
For recreation or rendering in Acrylic's Bla Bla Bla Bla.

Can we please see one of your wonderful finished (framed) either in a nice hung position, or with you and your brother holding it up for us? :-P

I'll bet a Dollar to a Doughnut that we will see why the lady took the photos.

I'll remember that one.

I actually did something similar at an art show last year. However, I did ask permission of the artist first. (his wife was reluctant to give us permission, but the artist was perfectly fine with it and said thank you) We shared the photo along with the artist's business card with someone we thought might be interested in going to the show to see his work. Unfortunately, our friend could not go, but did keep the business card so she could contact him later.

Not right away, your stuck like chuck.
Trapped like a rat:lol:
You can change the post to (...) or type duplicate post, then press the report issue button.
At that time a team of highly trained Monkeys will examine the issue and delete the post.
You have only a 1 hour window to do this.
However if you click the issue button (for each post always) tomorrow or later it gives an explanation box and it will still be resolved.

I can see that she probably was interested in your frames. They are quite impressive. Don't get me wrong, photos are great too. Unfortunately, these people didn't ask you about the frames before taking pictures of them. It would have made a different impression if they had asked specifically about how they were made, who made them, etc. Then you might have felt a little better about the situation. Unfortunately, we can't teach others manners or common sense. Good luck in dealing with the public in the future.

Public display = no assumed right to privacy.

Second; what do you care if someone takes a cell picture of your images OR frames?

How exactly will that damage your business?

Rude but, it was in a public place. People are pretty much useless.

I think you'll find that a venue like this is not a public place...it's usually a private place that's open to the public. No different to visiting a stately home or memorial really. I think I would have politely asked her not to take images of the work that took a long time to create. Just my tuppence worth.

No damage to business but if she didn't even ask for our contact info how could she promote it?
It was more of the sneaky way she did it then split that bothered us. It would have been nice of her to at least say hi to us!

Promote it?

I just asked; what do you care?

Let's pretend she took an image of your frames and liked it (that's all you know so far)

And let's also pretend that her brother in law is good with wood...and from the picture, makes her a frame...

I guess my comment is...

So? What do you care?
