Contest voting

I have not taken part in too many of the contests, but when I have, I have been a bit disappointed at how far down the list I am.

When I vote, I go through and vote my own, of course, but I also vote for a whole bunch of others. I was a bit surprised to see how many photographs got 1 vote out of 1 user. So, these people are only voting for their own pictures... Is that not 'weighting the game' a bit? Each time I have checked the ratings, there is a big block right in the middle, between the ones a bunch of people like, and the ones who share their vote around.

I would suggest to those doing this, that they at least check out the other entries... It's like, one whole vote only coming from the person who entered it, is like a 'null' result.

I do believe you are only allowed one vote. After that they do not count. Or at least that's the way it should be.

It is the way it was, tbut Admin changed it a year and a half ago.

Now you have One Point, thereby voting for more than one entry divides your point where Two Votes equal 0.5 points to each and so on. In the end, the results show as Number of Points and Number of Votes as in 9.07 (24). The idea behind it is to eliminate more than one entry from having the same number of votes.

I thought that was how it was long ago. Hadn't realized it was changed.

Right when I jumped in it changed for better or worse.

The voting does seem like an odd way of doing it. Not sure what would be the fairest way. Maybe 3 votes per person? Then you can vote for yourself plus 2 others. Or you give each photo a star rating of 1-5? The problem is, some contests have many entrants, and it can be very time consuming to view them all and then vote on each. I saw that many entrants had 0 votes.

On the zero votes you know that they voted for some one other than themselves.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I think each person gets one vote, but you can vote for multiple entries and your vote then only counts as a PARTIAL vote!! One divided by how many times you vote!! Vote for 32 and each one gets 1/32 vote!

It works for those who don't try to 'game' it. Most pics have a fractional score, and it lists how many people voted for them. For the people I am talking about, you get a long list of pics with "1 (1)" for their score. Can't imagine anyone would *not* vote for their own pic, so this means that they are *only* voting for their own entry.

Not very sporting, chaps!

voting for your own seems a little ummmmm how would one word this ......... self centered?

I don't enter but I do try to vote fr the image I think fits the theme and is the best image of the bunch.

I've entered a few times. I never consider voting for my pictures. My goal is not to win a contest, it is to try and put up a picture that meets the goals of the contest and then, I hope, intrigue someone else. If I get 1 vote, I love it, someone likes what I did that day. I, also, look at the other pictures and try to find one or two that pique my interest and I vote for them. I vote in most contest if the subject interests me.

Proposed new rule.
1. Entrants must vote before competion closes or their entry is cancelled.
2. Entrants cannot vote for their own entry.
3. Entrants have three votes - 1st, 2nd and 3rd

I would think it a simple matter to program this.

Yes, must be simple as chips.
Feel free to write the code for it and submit it to admin Delderby.

Strange - voting for your own photo - I wouldn't dream of doing that - can't see the sense of it either - I have entered a couple of times and am thrilled if I get a vote, I wouldn't be thrilled at all if my one vote was from myself!!
