How do you get them to stay still long enough to focus? These were taken yesterday in my yard.

You have to have a camera with at least 5sps, a lens that focuses very fast also. and lots of patiences, trials and errors. :D

Day 11 of our challenge.
My entry for today is a study in rust. No fancy effects just adjusted the levels and curves for exposure and color balance and sized smaller. I'm almost starting to understand shooting in manual....this has been a good experience.
We have so much photographic enthusiams going around it's really exciting to see what y'all post.

Love that idea. I love to shoot old machinery and big gears.
I always do the local barn tours in my area over the summer. I'm fasinated with old barns and out buildings. Saw one yesterday and here it is

I like your photo due to the way the fence curls around the property.

Here is my day 11th photo. This is a photo of the sign on the roof of a restaurant in Summit County. Although the restaurant is now closed, the "R" in the sign did not light up for years before the closing.

Cool shot!

No trick, I always Meter off the sky when sunny conditions. I also lower my exposure by 1/3 to 1 full stop. If foreground is to dark because of Metering off the sky, I bring up the shadows with the shadow sliders in Aperture 3, adjust contrast just a hair and there you go.. Here they are before Black & White. Now you can really see the Rust.

fstop22 - I really enjoy the detail of all your shots. In this pic the clouds really pop. Whats your trick?

The second photo is straight, it's the wrought iron that's leaning.
