If PP was done away with except from out of the camera I wonder how many of the "artists"would still bother with Photography

Hard to speculate about such a hypothetical question which has little to no chance of ever happening. But having said that, I suppose that for some it would make little difference, and for some it would mean looking for a whole new avenue for fulfilling their creative urges. From a personal standpoint, I'd be stuck in the middle. While I would continue my interest in the "photography" aspect of things, I'd sorely miss the post-processing side of things, as it is a large part of how I approach some images.

Ultimately, the only thing that really matters is that people continue to feed the creative part of their souls, in whatever way they find to be the most rewarding.

Sorry you are wrong ansel did spend ages in the dark room manipulating his pictures to get the result he had envisaged

The point was not that he spent "ages" in the darkroom, it's whether he spent more actual time in the darkroom than he did on the field alltogether. But that's not really the issue anyway and it doesn't matter.

I'm with you. I take most of my pix in order to have a memory of some scene or object I like. If what shows when I download a given pic doesn't seem to reflect accurately what I remember, I alter it by cropping, lightening, darkening, sharpening, etc., to reflect what my eyes saw, as best I can recall.

My only concern is that the pic I recall is a bit more brighter and/or colorful in my mind than what I really saw, such that I end up, for example, with a fall foliage leaf a bit brighter or more red than what was actually there.

OTOH, I have seen some photos that *I* would consider over-processed, but that looked absolutely fantastic.
I've seen others that I would have liked to tear up, but that's a bit difficult when it is on a monitor AND belongs to someone else :-)

I too spent many hours in the darkroom, trying to get my photos to 'work'... This way is much more comfortable, and doesn't smell nearly as bad!

There are people who consider that any post camera manipulation of a photo removes the photo from reality and makes it a creation rather than a photo. I'm not talking about actually creating something from nothing. I'm talking about lighting adjustment, cropping, blurring, and other adjustments to improve the photo. I'd like to hear from both sides.

I hate to tell you this but photos are already a creation. They are not reality. And modern dslrs do a lot of the same processing in camera that many of us do in post processing, like adding contrast, or sharpness or color tone, or modifying white balance or vignetting correction.

When you tell someone: "oh that is a bunch of crock and untrue", when it really is true, you sound like Obama. When you say "it doesn't matter", you sound like Hillary.

.... Lets say he did spend more time in the darkroom than he did out in the field....ya so what? It did take more time to process film and prints in his time than it does now digitally. The subject was not about the time it takes, it was about "Post Camera Manipulation". I bet my bottom dollar you can in no ways perform Adams skills in the darkroom and he did.

Yes, I looked a number of Ansel Adams bio videos and his actual taking of a photograph was brief, but his time in the darkroom to make the print that he wanted was enormous.

OK fair enough, he did a wonderful job at it as well. Always love viewing his work when ever I can.

You are obviously annoyed at the Obama, Hillary comments, but I'm annoyed at the constant lies from those two and I like to mention them every time I can.

Do you see any correlation between POST CAMERA MANIPULATION and POST MEDIA MANIPULATION such as: If you like your insurance policy you can keep it, period ?"
