Hi Long Island, I am a newbie here and I'm changing hobbies going from prospecting for gold to hopefully taking photo's like yours. I have always wanted to try my hand at photography. So much to learn but willing to try. What would you suggest my choice of camera be in the DSLR area? I'm looking at a price range of $500-$1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the beautiful photo's

one suggestion i could give you would be to go to a big box store such as bestbuy and try them all on for size. Meaning see how they feel holding them, look at the menue system and see if you like it etc. If you have a local camera store, they may let you try out several models and makes and give you some suggestions. If your looking in the Canon line up i would suggest after going to a brick and morter store, go on line to canon referbs and see if you can find something similar to what you tried out in the store and see if you save anything price wise. Canon referbs now come with a 1 year guarantee. You can also see what the camera store or stores may have in regards to used. In your price range you're probably looking at the rebel line from Canon. as far as other manufacturers are concerned i don't know what they have to offer in those price limitations. Anyway good luck. One other thing you can try is to see if you can join any local camera clubs in your area and "pick their brains". the only downfall of the latter,is you usuall have people who are brand fanatics. Good Luck
