Will be in Florida in early March. Looking for some suggestions on good birding photography places. Flying into Orlando and will have a rental car so won't be restricted to just Orlando. Thanks in advance!

Lake Woodruff Wildlife Preserve is a good choice ! It's in DeLeon Springs, near Deland, about 60 miles NE. Lots of hiking and birds and alligators etc.

I volunteer at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, it is especially good in March. Delray Beach has two great birding areas, Green Cay, and Wakodahatchee Wetlands. Corkscrew Sanctuary offers guided tours, free with admission, but the numbers are limited, start daily at 10:30AM, arrive at least an hour early to sign up. As mentioned, check "Florida Birding Trail" for directions.

I agree with the Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland as one of the better spots. If you are a Facebook User, check out their page. There are daily photo postings by many of the regular visitors.

Don't miss lake blue Cypress about 2 hours from orlando they have more osprey nest than any place in Florida, great place off the beaten path. You can rent a pontoon boat. A big plus is in the morning the sun is at you back an a lot of the nests are eye level. Its like going back to the 60s. Check it out U will love it!

Take hwy 50 straight east of Orlando. They call it the Cheney hwy. follow it straight to Titusville. Look for the prominent sign that says Merrit Island National Refuge. You won't be sorry you vsisted it. There are birds all over the place: egrets, spoonbills (they look almost like flamingos), ibis' , coots, storks, maybe some limpkins. There are walking and driving trails. Also there is a big watch area building where you can overlook the whole area. There are gators there too you may find interesting to photograph. The last time I went there it was free. There's a fish camp on the St. John's River before you get to Titusville that will give you an airboat tour of the swamp in that area. Well worth the tour. Good food too! Hope that helps a little.

If you get to the Tampa Bay area, do not miss the very large Ft. Desoto Park in St. Petersburg - a favorite among birders everywhere.

Best spot I have found to assure you will see birds is the Circle B Bar Ranch Nature Preserve. We have seen everything from Sandhill Cranes, to Glossy Ibis, to Black Bellied Whistling Ducks. You may have to Google directions from Orlando. Paynes Creek Nature Preserve may be closer but I have not been there yet. I've heard it is nice and has a lot of wildlife. You may want to Google "Great Florida Birding Trail" for more suggestions.

  Circle B for sure. Not far from Orlando(1/2 hr) and outstanding for birds/alligators. Here's some shots I've taken there.

In about the same distance in the opposite direction is the Merritt Island bird sanctuary. Here my sample photos of that place.

The American Birding Association publishes a number of birding travel guides that I have used. All excellent. Check out their website.
