A bit of a mystery

Here is a HD photo taken at New Jersey's High Point State Park. The monument shown is located there, at the highest point in the state.

The day was cold, overcast and windy, so I did not expect too much from the photos. This one, however, had a few extras I could not pass up. The main thing that impressed me is the slight halo outlining the monument itself. It came from nowhere, but I like it.

The light at the top of the tower was kicked up with a bit of "lens flare". There really is a bright light up there, but not that bright. At night it is a landmark for airplanes and motorists.

In any case, I like the results, although I recognize its shortcomings.

Yes - there is a shortcoming in this photo.

It's really great and I didn't take it.

Thanks. Not sure that reflects well on your tastes (grin), but I appreciate your comments.

Hi Jack ... this picture is phenomenal. The cracks in the sky are unreal and, along with the halo around the monument, gives this a really mystical quality. The only thing (for me) that detracts from that is the rather "normal looking" cars and little blue sign at the bottom ... have you considered cropping those out of the picture? Just a thought ...

Good thought Larry. I can do that fairly easily and will give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

I do not see shortcomings in this photo. I see it as a great and beautiful photo. I downloaded to add to my collection of photos of War memorials across the country by other photographers. This old Viet Vet thinks it is one of the best I have seen. thanks for posting.

Your welcome. I also decided to try and get rid of the cars and green sign. I used a clone stamp in Photoscape 3.6 for the work. hope you like it,

Have they opened this monument back up to the public yet? I used to live near there.

It's pretty iffy. Not during the winter months, as far as I know. The stairs, etc. were replaced a few years ago, but budget problems seem to stand in the way of much opening. I guess the staff has been pretty limited lately. Hope it will be open again this year, but who knows.
