I never buy over priced oem batteries.
I usually get the Wasabi brand from amazon.
They also have batttery/ charger combos in case you need an extra charger. I cant tell a difference in my D7100 from oem.

My first post :)

Welcome, First Poster! I also have quite a few Wasabi, and their chargers, too.

I have bought 2 wasabi with charger and they dont last half as long as my canon batteries. I bought a "used" canon battery -open box but new. Lasts as long as my other canon battery. So I don't use or pack any non-canon batteries anymore.

I have been using brand X batts. in my Canon T3 1100D and no problem at all. Do most of my shooting at hockey games and the gear does get quite cold after shooting a few games. No problem at all with the brand X batts. If you check Adorama or other good suppliers they run sales and I purchase a few at a time. They last a year they paid for themselves, dump them and use the new ones. Plus you will save a bundle of $$$$$. By the way, welcome to UHH.

Thankyou to everyone for your valued information, and especially for all the kind comments regarding my photo contribution.
It's a beautiful world, I'm sure you'd all agree, and photographing it allows you to explore that beauty on a far more personal level.

Thanks again everyone........Dave

Hey everybody,

I just joined this fine group, and I'm looking for input regarding camera batteries. I've had a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 compact since 2006. And, what a very fine camera it has been! The photo attached, of the Mabry Mill, on The Blue Ridge Parkway, was taken with my TZ1 camera. But, now I believe that I'll step up to a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 because, frankly I have no real use for the WiFi that comes with the DMC-ZS30, or, for that matter, the GPS that comes with either one. Does anyone ever use it? The 920k LCD screen on the ZS30 might be nice. I'm not sure. Blah! Blah! Anyway, that's another story, for another time.
For now, can anyone explain to me why a Panasonic DMWBCG10 battery, for DMC cameras, sells at Future Shop for $79.95, and aftermarket Digipower and Optex batteries sell, also at Future Shop, for $39.99 and $48.98 respectively. And also, one can purchase an Expro battery, which has a claim to meet or exceed original manufacturers specs., and carries a 2 year warranty, on Ebay for $21.41 delivered to my mailbox.
Please, go beyond the common, "You're paying for the name" response if that's possible, and try to explain, to me, why I shouldn't feel more comfortable, paying less.

Thanks everybody.............Dave

To answer the first part, I Geotag every landscape or cityscape image. It is then easy to locate on Google Maps or other mapping software. I also capture, altitude, attitude (the cameras not mine), and heading.

I bought a Optech battery for my Canon T2i. It seemed to last about as long as the Canon battery. Only complaint is the battery level meter couldn't read it so I never new when it was about to die. Some aftermarket batteries don't have this problem. I just used it first and always had a fully charged Canon battery ready to go.

Many of the newer batteries have a chip in them that contain things like, how much power am I supposed to have, power remaining, how hot am I allowed to get, discharge/recharge rates, sort of information. The chip also regulates how fast the battery can be charged or discharged, or, even shutting off the battery pack when it hits a predetermined discharge or temperature rating.

This allows the camera to know what the battery is doing, and, in some cases, tells the camera to shut itself off when the charge gets too low. It is meant to (hopefully) keep the battery in top shape, longer, and do keep it from discharging so fast it heats up and burns, or explodes! Mostly used in NIMH or many of the newer packs.

Hope this helps.

Hey Dave . . welcome to the UHH.
I have a Canon 1D mk II . . in Canada the replacement batter is over $250.00. Bought the same thing from B&H out of NY for $80.00 plus about $10.00 shipping. . . . and they wonder why we cross-border shop
