With my old software turning things b/w or septa was easy but how do I do it with the stock software that came with my d3100?
A free download of Picasa does that very easily also.

Perhaps you could give the actual title of the software?
DOOK

Picasa 3 & PhotoScape are both free & very user friendly. I find the software that comes with Nikons (ViewNX 2) is too complicated for a dummy like me, lol. I use these two free programs all the time.
With View NX once the picture is open go to adjustments then picture control and click on launch utility, in the utility click on manual adjust then click toning option and select either sepia or B&W
