Raising the debt limit is simply to pay the bills already accrued.
It has nothing to do with future spending. That's why it is such a crucial issue. You don't stiff your creditors.

so tired if reading that short-sighted mantra over and over. We spent way more than we had, saying: "O well, we'll just raise the debt ceiling." Then arms are twisted with your mantra above and after the ceiling is raised yet again, we again spend way more than we have. How would you handle that if your kid did that with his/her allowance?

A: A viral email making this claim is off base. It distorts a Forbes article that compares private-sector workers with those “dependent on the government,” including government workers and pensioners, and Medicaid recipients — not just “people on welfare.

Of course! More lies from the people who brought you the government shutdown. Really guys, You republicans are a joke.

I'm not sure who to blame for the shutdown, but it certainly looks more like Obama's lapdog Reid than anyone else.

The thing that the American people are really starting to see, though, is the fractured, vindictive and petty decision making process in the White House relative to "shutdown" priorities.

What it should do is silence the left on the old Red State moocher garbage that they like to throw out as they do while completely ignoring the demographics of those states and the economies of those states... For that I am thankful.

Oh! What was I thinking, silence the left from making hateful and unjust claims against conservatives???? No, no amount of fact or reason could ever accomplish that.

First of all: repubs have talked for MONTHS about defunding Obamacare by shutting down the govt; now it happens, and you think Obama did it???

The thing the American people are really starting to see is that the repub brand is at it's lowest level EVER!

See the Wall Street Journal of yesterday.

Why do you think Boehner is making proposals?

With poll numbers this low--and still sinking--the Dems have a valid chance to re-take the house. Two weeks ago, this was only a dream.

Not to worry Twardlow.... the pendulum always swings, and as soon as the average American begins to understand how ineffectual our government is and how much debt we have added to the balance sheets you folks will be in trouble. It is funny how you guys always want to argue about the small political BS and never want to take on the very real and large problems, those that threaten our nations very future, those that you will not address, because there are few solutions to those questions and your side holds on fevently to the wrong answers.

We spent it. It was approved by the Republican controlled House. Now we have to pay our creditors. If you want to talk about future spending, that is another issue.

Quite an eye opener...

These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!
Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2012, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. Household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What's the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000,which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $20.00 an hour.

Furthermore:
There are actually two messages here. The first is very
interesting, but the second is absolutely astounding - and explains a lot.

A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very
interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization.

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years
after diagnosis:
U.S. 65%
England 46%
Canada 42%

Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received
treatment within six months:
U.S. 93%
England 15%
Canada 43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it
within six months:
U.S. 90%
England 15%
Canada 43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within
one month:
U.S. 77%
England 40%
Canada 43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million
people:
U.S. 71
England 14
Canada 18

Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are
in "excellent health":
U.S. 12%
England 2%
Canada 6%

And now for the last statistic:

National Health Insurance?
U.S. NO
England YES
Canada YES

Check this last set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked
in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet. You know what the private business sector is; a real-life business, not a government job.

Here are the percentages.

T. Roosevelt.................... 38%
Taft................................ 40%
Wilson ........................... 52%
Harding........................... 49%
Coolidge......................... 48%
Hoover............................ 42%
F. Roosevelt..................... 50%
Truman........................... 50%
Eisenhower................ .... 57%
Kennedy......................... 30%
Johnson.......................... 47%
Nixon.............................. 53%
Ford................................ 42%
Carter............................. 32%
Reagan............................ 56%
GH Bush.......................... 51%
Clinton .......................... 39%
GW Bush........................ 55%
Obama............................. 8%

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration:
only 8% of them have ever worked in private business! That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business?

How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has never really had one? And when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers." They should have been in an employment line.

Pass this on because we'll NEVER see these facts in the main stream media.

The governors of Maine, Ohio, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and New Mexico are Republicans. So 6 of 10 of the highest welfare states are governed by Republicans.

I guess you must be on the dole. Sorry but I agree with Benjamin Franklin. I see the food stamp ladies in my supermarket buying nothing but the finest while my family looks for bargains. I have no problem helping the truly needy but there are too many taking advantage of the system.

This is a silly line of reasoning. Barack Obama was a community organizer, and the reason he won both elections--especially the second--was that his community was better organized! Even Romney recognized that.

Very good conclusion, Twardlow. Some may have preferred him to win the elections by virtue of being the best qualified candidate for the job.

So we can conclude incompetence is a prevailing bipartisan condition. I can agree with you on that, KW. Democrats don't have a corner on the "stupid market", though it may appear so.

Right Danilo. Plenty of blame to go around on both sides. Unfortunately, most of the people on this board only want to blame the Dems. You would think that all of our problems started on January 20, 2009.
